OLD SCHOOL RAT ROD meets DODGE 3500...

What is the diameter of the pin that goes through the front of the hitch that serves as the hinge... and does the pin go from side to side... . or are there 2 pins??? and if you pull the bolt and washer is there a brass bushing that it rides on??

Thanks

to be honest I didnt look that close but I will say it doesn't go side to side. . I THINK it is one pin, but not sure, I will post pictures when I get the new mount on. There is a pancake airbag inside the housing and a shock. It has an airhose to a schrader valve to air it up... . This hitch is pretty heavy. . all total about 240# !!... Good thing I have F rated tires!

Hope to get the new part today or tomorrow. If I get it today, I might be able to install it tomorrow. keep checking back

Trailair--no more jerking

I earlier posted that I had a front to back jerking between the trailer and the truck after installing my Trailair hitch pin. Well I found the problem and it is NOT the Trailair. It was me not using my head... again.

My truck has a HiJacker hitch that is adjustable front to back. After hitching up last month I re-adjusted the Hijacker and found it to be very sloppy. It is now snug and the front to back jerking is gone. It works great now in all respects.

I am sorry if I lead anyone astray on buying a Trailair.

Are any of you using the 5th Airborne Air Ride Coupler or something of equal value to it... .

If so I'd like a product report on if you feel this has been a benefit to you...

I know there are a couple of other brands but my web search hasn't found them so that information would be nice as well...

Thanks.....

BTW if one of you would be willing to take some digital images and forward them I'd be real appreciative of that.....

Jim,

I bought a new Hitchhiker fifth wheel earlier this year. HHs are manufactured by NuWa Industries in Chanute, KS, one of the oldest fifth wheel manufacturers in the RV industry. The trailer came with a Demco king pin plate as standard equipment. It is a simple but very effective device that suspends the king pin weight from another plate mounted a couple of inches above the king pin plate, hidden inside the king pin assembly. The pendulum design damps shock and prevents the jerking motion common with some fifth wheel trailers on some highways. It is simple, effective, affordable, and looks like it will be trouble free. I think the Demco kingpin hitch can be purchased for around $700.

You can view an interesting video on the NuWa website that illustrates how the hitch works and how it performs towing.

The Demco is probably worth your consideration. Having pulled a few thousand miles with it I would order it as an option at my expense.
