Fifth wheel weight capacity

Desert Fox 28' toyhauler

Has anyone out there used both the 5th Airborne and Demco pin boxes? If so which one do you prefer and why? The ride of my 13,500 lb 5th wheel needs to be smoothed out and I don't know which one to get. All thougths are appreciated

I have used both Moryde and the 5th abn, the advantage of 5th abn is that it dampens both the" bounce" and "shuck. " Moryde dampens only the" shuck" and as far as I can see the demco only works on the "shuck. "

I have the 5th Abn on my 14,500 lb Jayco and could not be happier,I have traveled on various tyes of roads for the past yr and as far as I am concerned it can't be beat.

Thanks for the reply. Question: Did you have to change the height adjustment on your hitch to get the 5th wheel to sit level to the side rails on the bed of the truck?

I don't think I did. I raised up the rear of the mount by the turret, then lowered the front part.

The bracket stuck up then so I cut off the top of the bracket (about 1/2"). . until it was level with the hitch. This ensured about 2" clearance from the hitch to trailer...

Trailer rides pretty level.

My DayDreamer came with a TrailAir which beat us to death. We installed a 5th Airborne for several weeks and got a little better ride but still chucked. We now run a Demco. It is the best hitch on the market.

That trail air has the pivot in the rear. . I believe that with the pivot in the front, it takes out most of the chucking. . plus having the air ride is great.
