Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 5th gear chatter

Ive got a chattering noise in 5th gear. 5th gear has come off two times,it never made a noise when it came off or give any waning.

The last time it come off was about two years ago.

Now it chatters when it is pulling on a hill or holding back going down hill. I've got 217000 mi. on it now,Is it time to change the transmission? Where is a good place to get a transmission?

I pull a 5th wheel camper out west twice a year,pull a dump trailer ,and a flat bed around home. I don't want to trade trucks but I need to depend on it when Iam away from home.

Do a search on the 5th gear. After spending way too much on dealer fixes and rebuilds I finally learned of the fully splined main shaft and a 3/16" punch, it really works. JMHO
