My gear slid right on, but it didn't come off even after 50k miles of HEAVY hauling. My trans was just rebuilt, we'll see if the nut will go 100k without falling off.
That's encouraging to hear Turbo Trucker. I sure hope mine does the same. I'm scared to put any power to it now after seeing that the nut is all that's going to be holding it. In time the fix will not be so fresh in my head and I will not be so afraid to use it probably.
While doing one of my clutch installs I put on the updated nut and the gear slid right off. I think the truck had about 40 k on it at the time and it now has 93k on it. At the time this was the only fix so I did it as PM. I tow 23k lbs in fifth all the time very hard as I always have so we will see how long it goes.
