The story starts with my brother-in-law borrowing my '96 to pull a travel trailer on vacation. Bad things seem to happen to brother-in-laws! He lost fifth gear about 200 miles from home. I had the 5th gear replacement done back in October '01 at 105,000 miles when nut let loose. Had Standard Trans gears installed at Performance Transmissions in Angleton, TX and now, 15,000 miles later, it fails on poor BIL.
Took truck to Performance on Monday, got it back on Tuesday. One day!?! Fifth gear had lost a tooth and shelled out like an ear of corn. Standard Transmission replaced faulty gears for nothing, Performance Transmission repaired for the cost of the oil and I got it back in one day! Total charges = $63. 04!!!
We hear a lot of bad things about vendors and shops, but good news is worth reporting.
I would recommend Standard Transmission in Forth Worth and Performance Transmission to anyone. The lead mechanic at Performance, Kevin, knows these Dodge transmissions, both manual and autos.
Just thought you ought to know.....
