So I got my transmission all apart and now I need to put the new nut on. I have been reading and finding mixed opinions on the "replacment nut".

Some say to tack weld the nut to the shaft. I also need to get the tools to put the nut back on. Does anyone know how much they cost, or if you can get loaners?

I also need a crossmember because it is broken almost all the way in half.

All in all a not good day of finding and to top it off my other car had the fuel pump go bad a couple days ago.

Any advice would be appericated.

Thanks

Justin

I used a whole lot of loctite and a big A pipe wrench to put mine back on. Hasn't come back off yet. :D tack welding or JB weld might not be a bad idea either.

you can tack in, but not too much, the shaft will snap in half. The nut off of the 99 and later is better than the aftermarket in my opinion. I have also got a punch and tapped in the edge of the nut right at the wedge in the shaft. lock the transmission in two gears or stick a rag in between fifth gear. Tighten by hand, and use a chisle to tighten the rest of the way.
