have 05 3500 drw truck was thinking of getting a diamond gooseneck hitch to keep the bed clean and get a 5th to goose adaptor for 5th wheel trailer. any one using this combo? I have seen a few doing it that way but have not had a chance to talke to anyone i saw using one. any input? Thanks, Jim

There have been many posts on this BB and on iRV2 on this subject. I was warned but tried it anyway. It seemed OK untill I hit a particularly bouncy section of highway, then it did major damage to my fiver. It tore the welds holding the pin box to the fiver frame right out. Fivers generally are not stressed to handle the added torque.

I have one on my trailer no problem, I ahce heard some have had trouble

with the pin box. I have a Travel villa and the pin boe is quite stout.

I would sat if yours is made out of 1/8 plate I would weld the adapter

on.

your milage may very.

In my case both the pin box and the frame were plenty strong; what failed was the actual welds. The weld metal tore, i. e. some of the weld stayed on the frame and some stayed on the pin box, it just tore. As I mentioned we were on a very bouncy section of highway and I did the usual check of the fiver in the mirror and happened to notice some funny movement between the pin box and the fiver body. I stopped to check things and the welds were about one half gone.

If you want the capability to tow a gooseneck and a 5th wheel PROPERLY, look at the B&W turnoverball gooseneck with their companion RV 5th wheel hitch. It leaves a clean bed when neither is in use.

Avoid the gooseneck adapters like the plague! 5th wheel frames aren't built to handle gooseneck torque loads - the adapter acts like a cheater pipe and greatly increases torsional loadings to the 5ver's pinbox area.
