In the very near future I will be putting a 3" body lift on my truck.

Has anyone had luck with using a gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch on a truck with a body lift?

The majority of people have trouble with the stock hight being to high. Many of them need to "flip-axles" etc. just to use a 5th wheel with our trucks without mods. There is even a TSB where Dodge will replace the spacer block on the axle to lower the back of the truck.

If you are going to pull a gooseneck you can have one made with a higher than standard area to go over the tailgate but this puts more stress on the trailer and needs to be done correctly.

Rob... . my thoughts exactly...

nuthin' that a little bit of steel and a welder can"t take care of... I should have said gooseneck only... I do not anticipate towing a 5th wheel anytime soon...

remember... ..... the right amount of fabricating needs the right amount of money! (I'm still driving mine stock!)

I pull a gooseneck with a skyjacker 5 inch suspension lift and 35's. All I've had to do is adjust the neck so I had enough clearance for the tailgate. The trailer does have a very slight rake, but that only helps when loading machinery. I think you would be fine with only 3 inches. Besides it looks cool when the trailer has a bit of a rake runnin 75:cool:

a friend of mine pulls a 30ft goosneck with loaders and other items all the time ,he had no problems and his truck is on 40s... i look sweet going down the road.

I'm leveled and lifted with a 3' body and pull a 30' gooseneck livestock trailer or a 20' flatbed sometimes. The only problem I have is the cummins can pull(too fast) what the trailers can haul. Oh yea,the stopping factor

Hmmm, I've got a truck that came with one of those in-bed reversible ball gooseneck hitches. I don't need the ball at the time and have been assuming that if I want to do a 2" body lift the ball would have to go. It's got a box frame that's bolted on top of the frame under the bed and unless that mounting could be raised the ball will be too low to attach anything to. I've figured that if I try to raise the lift with the bed I'd lose any rating that the hitch has. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to use it.

But I don't know a lot about those hitches. I think that it'd be OK to use a longer shanked ball and leave the hitch frame where it is. Probably I'll just leave the thing and think of it as a traction aid in the winter.
