5th wheel hitch

Hi,all with all the discussion about using a slider 5th wheel hitch due to the clearence issue's facing a tightly packed spot at a RV park.I noticed more and more 5th wheel trailer are offering what is called a Sharp radius front cap on the nose of their trailers.Does anyone have a non slide 5th wheel hitch in a standard 6' box,and using one of the newer style sharp radius front caps on their trailers.The angle seems to really sharp off what degree I do not know.I say this because we have pick the trailer but are looking at a non slider for our 15 RAM 2500 factory puck system.Our dealership is offering us a discount on a MOPAR/CURT 16K non slider factory approved for the puck system for 438.00 out the door.Thoughts anyone...

Curt/RAM hitches are Made in China. I hitched an in laws Curt twice and it certainly is NOT simple to hitch! I would advise the B&W RVK3600 and adjust the hitch head as needed for clearance. Then when you decide to get a larger RV and truck you can take the hitch with you. Yes the B&W is more money but WELL worth it!

Cummins12V98,I am looking for anyone who had a sharp radius front nose cap on their 5th wheel trailers,and if they were using a fixed hitch without a slider system for the RAM puck system.We were given a 100.00 dollars for the parts deptment for buying a 2016 RAM 2500.It already has the factory prep,running boards,so we thought why not the hitch.

I can tell you many are using the hitch I mentioned and adjusting the head position for the RV to clear the truck. I can tell you anyone that has used a B&W and a Curt will most likely tell you to buy the B&W. Use your credit for some mud flaps.

I will check on the trailer pinbox settings to see what I have.It is a Lippert 1160 I believe.I have been looking at price's for the B&W Companion and at 1100 plus ship or tax's is to steep for us right now.Snoking the front cap on our Forest River HG is beveled on the end's of the front cap,allowing for more of a turn radius.It does not look like your front cap,View attachment 94369

I have a 2008 Ram Mega Cab with the 6.5' box using a manual sliding hitch, this has been used in two different short bed trucks. I have pulled three different 5er's, all with extended kin pin boxes and two of them have had the rounded or 88 DEG's corners on them. If I did not manually extended the slider hitch when turning really sharp to get into a narrow camp ground site or into my driveway I will hit the cab of the truck with the trailer. In normal day to day driving on highways and city streets I do not need to extend the hitch and I can pull the 5er with no issues. It is only in real tight turning situations that the hitch needs to be extended.

My first trailer was a 2006 Ameri-Camp with an extended pin box this had a radius front end but not enough clearance with the cab. My next trailer was a 2010 318SAB Cougar with the 88 DEG corners, this two would hit the corner of the cab in a really tight turn. Our current trailer a 2016 34RL Cedar Creek will hit also in a very sharp turn.

I have always stated that there are two type of people who pull with a short bed truck and pull a 5er! Those that have hit the cab and those that will!

"Those that have hit the cab and those that will!" Given that I have to slide my hitch back to use the B&W release lever, I slide at RV park check in lane! Backing into my front yard spot, I realized I would hit the cab if not slid back. Going forward does not seem to be an issue. SNOKING

I would still be very careful. Friends with a SB Ford did a turn around in a big parking lot and blew out their rear window.

Concur with both of you,and will take up that advise on being careful.I just thought with the shaved frontend caps on the 2016 FR's,it appeared to be even a bigger rake than previous's models.I will at some point jump to a slider,just for the peace of mind.
