What Speed Do You Tow Your Trailer?

That's UGLY!!! I've never seen anything that weird in any campground I've been in. Oh Well, long as they're havin fun!!

?

The one that fills your particular needs is the best. The picture reminds me of a rig I saw near Del Nort Colorado last summer. It was about a 28' 5th wheel turned around backward and mounted on the back of a cabover Diesel truck chassis. On the rear, under the original fifth wheel hitch was a small platform with complete with a sub compact car. bg

Worse

I gotta go snap a pic of this rig I see around town. Its a late 70s station wagon... I think a LTD or something BIG. It has been "adapted" to a huge slide in camper(which is also OLD as well) Its very special looking lol. I have also seen a slide in mounted on a homemade gooseck trailer. Gooseneck balls aren't that hard to take out... . just put it in the truck!

Even worse

I have seen, but not recently in Walla Walla an old Buick or Olds with a 5th wheel mount on the roof. Some march to a different drummer.

I definately think this all depends on your usage. For me a TT is perfect because I can still use the bed of my truck to put my motorcycle, firewoods, tools and I need the space in the trailer for the family (wife, daughter, and 75 lb Siberian Husky).

Bad340 - I don't know what that persons reason was for the gooseneck/truck camper but I was considering a like setup. I wanted the truck camper to be able to load it in the back of the truck to go camping in out of the way areas. But I also used to tow my wife's Jeep to the sand dunes to play. Because of the low carrying capacity of my 2500 I was going get a gooseneck trailer long enough to be able to put the truck camper on the front of it and carry the jeep behind it and still stay within my weight limits. That idea went out the door because we are selling the Jeep (the Dodge is more fun on the dunes) and decided we needed more space than a truck camper would allow.

Steve: I've seen pics of your rig. That thing is big. Now that you have had it for a while, how has it been working out for you?

All: The reason for this post was mostly to show the pic of the "5th-wheel-travel-trailer-what-ever-you-want-to-call-it-thing" that I saw last weekend. I know that this subject has been discussed before, but I added the poll in just for the fun of it and to see what the numbers are.

I am anxiously awaiting our new 5th wheel (see sig), and have ordered additional solar equipment and a Jacobs e-brake for the Dodge. I plan on installing it myself, but will holler if I need help.

This place is too much fun.

It's been great Klenger. I've spent almost 2 full weeks in it already (couple of GLTDR events, plus a dunes trip). Only bad experience was when the sway controller pin at the trailer fell out and the sway controller disconnected from the trailer! I can honestly say that there is NO WAY to haul a trailer that big without a sway control device of some sort. The pucker factor was so high I compressed the seat cushion down to where I was hitting the seat pan!! A cavalier passed by me and started the trailer swaying!! Thank god for safety wire!!

travel trailer

I pull a 17" Casita travel trailer you see them advertized in the back of RV Mags. factory direct puchase. This little trailer tows perfectly like it's glued to the back of my truck. No sway equiptment needed. Yes it is small but for two people and a little shelty dog it is OK. Thinking of getting a tent for overflow. with a cap on the 8" bed of my truck I have quite a bit of storage. I'll upgrade someday but for now my truck is longer than my trailer. I loce this forum it really helps.

B. G. Smith,

Yep, it's still there--saw it last week. The truck is an old COE Ford. On the west side of CO Hwy 112 that cuts across to Center, CO and connects to US 285. I don't think that guy ever uses it. I've seen it every time I've been up there for the last 5 or 6 years--maybe longer.
