I am in the planning stages of purchasing a 5th wheel trailer and a hitch. I like the design of the factory 5th Wheel Prep Group but my '15 didn't come with it. Is this something that can be purchased and installed, or is a factory installation only thing?

If it is possible, is it worth it? I would really like to be able to easily remove the whole hitch when I'm not using it.

.My 2012 did not have the prep kit as it was not available. I went with the Reese Elite Series hitch which has an under bed mounting system that clamps to the frame. The hitch mounts to the frame through holes in the bed and when removed the bed is clear. There are two different mounting frames with one being much stronger and should be used for the higher rated hitches. I have used it for 3 years now and I am very satisfied. Google Reese for more info.

Check out the B&W turnover ball goose neck and the Companion hitch set up. I have it and it works very well, a quality piece.

The parts are cheap from Chrysler and from what I have read not a hard job. I would do the prep kit and get one of these!

This is the exact setup I would like to do, but I do not see a slider version available....that or I'm just inept!
I have not towed a 5th wheel yet.....how much of a benefit is a slider hitch with a shortbed...kinda nice, or borderline must?

I have seen the factory gooseneck set up. I haven't seen and wasn't aware they had a factory 5th wheel option.

if they have a factory 5th wheel option, do they sell the hitch that goes in the bed? And if they don't sell the 5th wheel hitch in the bed, whose hitch will fit?

The photo that cummins12V98 posted shows the use of the four mounting "pucks" from the 5th wheel prep group (the holes in the bed that mounts the hitch at the four corners). Yes, Mopar also sells the hitch itself, and as you can see in the photo, aftermarket companies do make hitches that utilize the mounting pucks.

Currently, B&W does not offer a slider to fit the factory pucks, only for their turn over ball gooseneck.

The turn over ball goosneck hitch for these trucks is actually less money than the factory puck option, and a simple install.

Sam

Yeah. The factory one is nice. But it gets up to 700-800 for the factory gooseneck prep + ball & chains.

I imagine the 5th wheel is a bit more. If you buy both 5th and factory ball/chain, that's absurd in terms of cost, I would imagine.

Just look at my above pic.

My 2015 3500 SRW LB came with the factory puck system. This is the hitch I purchased.
Just returned from a three thousand mile trip, no issues. Love the hitch, smooth operation and quiet.
Hitch head separates from base for easy removal, less weight to wrestle with when removing it. One man job.
Not sure if a slider is available for the puck system.

I just installed a B&W gooseneck hitch and the 4 factory pucks in a 2015. The bed did have to be lifted a little to install the 4 pucks. The hitch wasn't bad. If you do install them do the 4 pucks first. Thy come with a large gasket that covers if the hole is off center. The B&W does not do it last after bolting the bed back down.
