Pulling Double trailers in CA

P/up My 44' Featherlite Today & Tow's Sweet

I have to second the Easy Rider Air Hitch, it was the best investment I have made for the towing of the trailer. You can look in the mirrors and see the trailer moving up and down while the bed remains level; big difference.

RHarvey; I too had the problem when the weight came down to engage the overloads, the ride was harsh when it made contact. I removed the overloads and installed the Firestone Air bags. Now if it comes down, you don't even know it made contact. Before it was like hitting the axle stops when the overloads were engaged. Big difference.

Same Horizontal bucking

I have a 37 sandpiper sport toy hauler that tows like crap, exact same thing you speak of, jerking back and forth.

I bought it when I owned a 97 1 ton CTD dually that towed a 37' alpenlite with no problems.

It jerked the 97 around , back and forth. I assumed it was the truck/trailer height. ( Had 10+ inches between bedrail and trailer)

Later bought a 05 4X4 CTD and get the same jerking back and forth. More water in the tank( which is over the 5th) helps, but does no stop it, even trailer empty.

I'm guessing its the poor design of the trailer/towing, as The Alpenlite towed like it was not even there.

I'd love an answer myself, as I stuck with the 5th for quite a while. tried different hitches, no help.

Ride

I will say again, put someone in the 5er while it is bucking. Note the ride of the 5er. Is it bucking? If not put a rider in your truck bed for a short distance an see if the hitch is rocking a little? This movement will resinate into a bucking of the truck.

Bug Out:

How does your toy box pull on a very smooth stretch of road? If it pulls OK and this jerking starts on a rough road you may have a tire/suspension problem with your trailer. Fred
