5th wheel to goose neck in a megacab

i am looking in buying a new toyhauler soon and want a 5th wheel @35' for the room inside. and would like to have the room in the bed to haul stuff when i park the trailer. so i want to convert the king pin to a goose neck. and install a pop up ball in the truck. i have looked at some of the past posts abot the adapter and it seems like it is not the best thing for the trailer, but it works. i really want the room in the bed with out the rails of the 5th wheel in the way. the trailers i am looking at are 9200 lbs dry and with water, food, chlothes, bikes i think i will be around 12500lbs max. all of this in a 2500 megacab 4x4 with a 3" lift. any thoughtsor suggstions would be helpful since i will be purchsasing in the near future. thanks

I have similar needs as you do and find that my B&W works well in this application. Primarily I use the gooseneck, but it is nice to be able to tow our 5th wheel when I need to. I am sure that you have already considered the minimal clearance w/the 5th wheel configuration. I dented my cab before I got smart and put an appropriate neck on my 5th wheel to give me plenty of clearance.

B&W turnover ball gooseneck w/ the companion 5th wheel hitch. With an extended pin box on the trailer and the companion set back 6", you should be pretty good for clearance and just lift out the companion and you have the complete bed and no rails. Don't use a gooseneck adapter, in the long run you will be glad you did not. Also some of the newer 5ers have angled corners that work better with short beds.

I think cab clearance would be a serious issue if you don't use a slider hitch. If you want the room in the bed, you could leave the hitch attached to the trailer when you unhook from the truck, then you would only have the rails to deal with, which is not bad.

I have an 06 mega with said goose installed. I also converted my 35' toy trailer to the goose hitch with 9" offset. I just hooked up yesterday for the first time and already ordered the 4" offset pin. that puts me in the 13" rage for offset and I am hoping it is enough, I think it will be real close. I will reply next monday and let you know my results.

Back from my trip, the 4" off set ball wan't in by the time I left. the only real problem I encountered was arrival at home and the culdesac. had to back up to make the turn with out hitting the cab. I think with the added 4" I will be able to make it ok. having said all that I can't say as I recomend this set up.

Too bad Dodge won't wake up and make a "real" bed to go with the monster cab. I think they are loosing a lot of sales due to guys holding onto their old trucks hoping DC gets the message that they want an 8 foot bed.

I read that is is now $4500 to do it as he found a source for takeoff long beds. Not positive on that though.
