PDR35 report and driving the DTT Auto

Trailer wiring ground?

Wife and I are thinking of buying a nice 5th wheel. Here is the problem, we have a full family and two dogs. Can the dogs ride in the 5th wheel while driving? Logic says "no", but .....

Thanks!

I put my cats in the 5th wheel. They were fine. I have tried putting them in the cab and it takes about 3 hours before they settle down. I don't know how comfortable they are in the 5er but it works for me. Dogs, I don't know about. My wife's dog has not traveled with us yet. I have some funny stores about trying to catch and load cats that don't want to be caught.

Our rotty did not like it very much, even in his crate. I think there is too much motion for them, kinda like getting sea sick.

our cat prefers to ride in the 5er. he sits ob the floor at the foot of the bed, which should be the quietest and smoothest spot.

5th Wheel W/Animals

We have shown Bernese Mountain Dogs for longer than I care to remember, & these dogs run from 90 to 120 lbs

We took the back seats out of our Dodge and it is set up for the dogs. That is why we traded off our 95 for the 03, for the dogs. ;)

One of the toy hauler 5th wheels can be set up with a dog crate & grooming area in the rear. Have seen a number of those at dog shows.

We have always had a P/U camper < 35 plus years > till two weeks ago when we got our Alpenlite 29 foot 5 th wheel. :D Could not find a good used toy hauler or would have purchased one of them.

The dogs will still ride in the truck and have their kennel area set up under the awning and we will have more room for us.

Yes, pets can ride in a 5er while towing. In fact, in many states people can ride in a 5er as long as you have radio communication. I personally would probably let my dogs ride in the trailer in their kennel, but would never drive with people in the trailer.

Fifth wheels are the only kind of trailer in which people can ride, which as stated above requires radio communication. I doubt there are any laws/regulations addressing pets in any kind of RV.

My Golden insists on riding in the cab with us,the trailer freaked her out pretty bad the one time we tried it,maybe 5 miles worth... ... ... ... . Yea she is spoiled.

My lab freaked out while ridin in our 5vr. The blinds took a bit of a beating. After that episode, we tranquilized him & he slept during the ride. Good luck.

My dogs ride in the cab, I have seen pictures of campers that have been involved in accidents, not usually anything left but a pile of ruble.

I usually put the dog in the crate in the bed of the truck, but when I haul the atv there's no room. She gets crated in the trailer, right at the door. It's only a foot or so in front of the tires, so there shouldn't be as much motion there. Kind of like sitting in front of the back tires in a 15 passenger van as opposed to behind them.

While the law may allow you to let the pooches ride in the trailer, I can't imagine what would happen to them if there was a crash. Many RVs are wood framed. Won't provide a lick of protection in that situation and the wood splintering will make tiny little projectiles flying toward the dog.

For you guys worried about the safety of your dogs in the camper, I got one for you!

I was out on a run with some horses and I passed an SUV. This SUV had a kennel rigged up to ride IN THE REAR RECEIVER HITCH! The dog looked relaxed, but I could never imagine ... ..... some people just should not own dogs, period.
