5th wheel with truck box??????

I am tossing up in the air weather or not should i get a truck box or not?



If i were to get one it would have to be an over the rail truckbox...



Now with that in mind, what i am wondering is if you can tow a 5th wheel with a over the rail truck box in, or would it have to be taken out..... I almost forgot the most important thing is i have a long bed.

i have towed a fifth wheel for 10 years with my old ford 7. 3, long box and i had an over the rail tool box. it only comes into play when you turn real tight- jack knife. of course it does matter how high the box is, mine was about 5 inches above bed rails. you can tow anyway if you watch how tight you turn..... AND if your fifth wheel does clear okay you still have to watch it on uneven ground. most hitches are adjustable for height, but you want to tow as level as possible. i'm just geting my dodge ready to tow now and had to lower it. not sure if my box is going to fit under either. hope i have been of some help. robert

I have a low profile over rail, really the lid is the only part above the rail and I only lightly tapped it once making a tight turn with really weird angles. It is still deep enough to put toolboxes in but gives enough room below it to still carry 8 foot lumber with the tailgate up.

Like Silver600 I have a low profile over the rail toolbox (Truck Trunk). It only sticks up about an inch over the rail. Never had any clearance issues with it installed. You could go with a floor mounted box, but I also wanted to be able to slide 8' boards under it.

I have a Husky over the rail-I think it sits up about 3-4 inches, and have not had any problems with the 5th hitch or trailer. It does, though, block sight of the pin when hooking up, so can be a challenge sometimes. Most of the time I am happy I have it in the bed. It's good for storage, and looks good, too. Bruce
