Also, the hitches are installed behind center of axle to allow more clearance for tight maneuvers. This causes a light front axle condition and can/will overload the rear axle. Like Harvey said, buy the long bed and save your money on the bandaid fixes.

Those who already own sb trucks then late buy and tow fifth wheel or gooseneck trailers claim their trucks are okay but if you are going to buy a truck buy one with a real bed and avoid the hassles.



LB trucks with 8' beds handle the load better and you won't need expensive bandaid hitches and won't risk striking the cab when backing and turning.

Brilliant suggestions but Dodge does not manufacture a long bed Mega cab and I will not give up the additional interior room I have come to love and require. As a consumer group we have raised our desires to the corporate levels about solid axles, manual transmissions and long beds, most of which has fallen upon deaf ears.



I am pondering the long bed conversion but I am not sold on driving a longer/larger truck (land yacht) yet.

I run the B&W Turnover ball in my SB '07. I had the B&W Companion hitch and it worked great but yes you do have to watch turning. Last year, I decide to add a 45 gallon fuel tank/tool box to the bed, so I welded a GN adapter on the 5er (35') with a 5" offset (the comany offered a 9" too) and no issues - just have to watch to the turns - I've onyl ever had to take a second stab once due to misjudging the turn.

I have just received my new 5th wheel trailer. I have an 03 quad cab srw 2500 short bed 4x4. My dealer installed a new style pinbox on the trailer made by reese. It's called a sidewinder and it works great. The pin is locked/wedged at the hitch and the trailer rotates at the pinbox. Thus using less bed and not needing a sliding hitch. Go to youtube and search reese sidewinder and watch... Very cool.
