I work rotating shift at work. In the winter I do not have outlet available for block heater in morning when I leave a 7 am to drive home. Most trips are 8 miles each
way or about 15 miles each way when pulling 3000 lb boat in summer to launch site.
Truck has 81000 miles on it.
I use synthetic in two minivans and change at about 5000 miles even though car manual says 7500 for change. Minivans used at interstate speeds for long trips.
I am concerned about short trips on the diesel, so thought synthetic would be better.
I ran it last winter as well. Bigest test for my rig was setting in the parking lot all day. Never got over 5deg F all day, was 3 deg when I went to start it. Had to hold the throttle 1/4 of the way but it fired after 3 seconds or so of cranking and slowly chugged to life. 1-2 seconds more and I don't think the battery would have done it.
