6.5 power enhancements

Caterpillar 3126 horsepower increase.

doesnt sound good for the ford camp. I test drove an 03 ford 6. 0 before buying my 03 dodge. i was not impressed. I swear the old 7. 3s felt stronger to me. i dont think their sales will slow down any those ford boys are very loyal. even when a dodge upstadges them

A good friend of mine took delivery of a new 6. 0 a month ago. it has spent eight days int he shop. We just picked it up friday night after having a new ICP sensor and reflash installed. The ICP, EGR and TPS sensors are the main issues in the trucks. Now that it is fixed, it does rip. Ford definitely did not due their homework on the engine management systems and programming. It seems that the old ICP sensor was housed in plastic and overheating. the new one has a ceramic build. It's to bad that it hapens becasue 46K is a huge chunk of change to have it sitting in the dealer. One thing I will say about the truck, the 5speed tourque shift transmission is impressive. the tow/haul mode is very agressive on both upshifts and downshifts.

So Jeff what your saying is that it's a great truck if it wasn't over priced, and driveable more than 2 out of 3 days. :-laf

It's almost scary how much we think alike... :D

NO, that wasn't intended as an insult... :-laf :-laf :-laf

Exactly. although the 1000 clams for the sunroof is a real bargain:rolleyes:

He was getting 6mpg unloaded before it went into the dealer. In the year i've had my truck, it has spent exactly zero days in down time. Simplicity works.

Ford has gone throuhgh twelve revisions in the software since the 6. 0 release. Tha t was only about four months ago!

I'm buying. I took delivery of mine this afternoon. I was at Kentucky Truck Plant when mine was made on February 19. I talked to the Navistar Quality Rep at the plant as mine was being made. He advised me if I had a good 7. 3 liter Powersroke to keep it. That was the problem as mine had been down 5 times in the last 10 months, undrivable. I pull a travel trailer long distances with my wife and 2 children and did not like the idea of being stranded miles from home with the old truck. The quality rep told me most of the problems with the 6. 0 were things that were not tightened down properly at the Navistar Plant. I am a UAW member of Ford Motor Company and sympathize with the workers at Navistar but I needed a new truck and could not bring myself to buy a Chevy or Dodge, even if they looked as good as a Ford, which they don't. I have more faith in this new 6. 0 than I did with my 2001 7. 3.

Pretty sad, if he doesn't like being stranded miles from home with his children, why doesn't he swallow his pride and buy the vehicle that has been tried and true? I never worry when the trailer is hooked to mine. I now have 75,000 worry free miles on mine. I was a long time Ford fan but had to face the music with durability. My 95 PSD left me sitting with repair bills numerous times. I joked with the wife that I had to add $200 to my monthly payment to cover my warranty deductible. I still have the mustang, but shy away from the diesel.

In the 50,000 miles that I put on mine it was in the shop for a cracked turbo pedestal, glow plugs twice, injector o-rings, glow plug relay, CPS, two dual mass fly wheels(one took out the clutch-$1,000 price tag on me), glow plug wiring harness, belt tensioner, exhaust back pressure valve and a starter(not a warranty item). I know there was more, this is just what comes to mind.

The best thing ever did was total the truck.

Navistar

One of my fishin' buddies works at the Navistar plant here in Indianapolis. I had dinner with him Wednesday (2/26) and he mentioned there was a layoff in the works due to some problems with the engine.

Saw a stock '03 6. 0L on the dyno today... Made a whopping 229 HP and 360 TQ. With a box connected, it made about 260 HP and 400 TQ. This was on a Dynojet, about 100' above sea level. We made several runs, and the readings were very consistent...

Evan, just curious, did that truck have the updated ICP sensor and rev 12 software? My friends truck was an absolute pig before the updates. It felt like it was dragging a wind sock behind it.

It would be interesting to see the dyno numbers before and after the revisions.

I'm not saying anything negative about the big Ford Crewcab 4wd, but about a week ago, my wife and I stopped by a local Ford dealer with one of those "teaser" mailer thingies. We drove in in our Ram and while walking in I saw the PS CC 4WD and stopped to look. With the dealer markup window sticker showing all of their add-ons, the price was $52,800 (and change).

$52800 FOR A PICKUP!!!!!!! My wife laughed all the way home about that.

The sad part is that someone will pay that much, too.

Now I know where to go when I need a good laugh :-laf Just shows that some people have more money (or credit $$) then sense :( My truck listed for $37K and I paid $28. 5, man I am smart :D

They will pay $52,000!!! and then try to sell it in a few years while asking $35,000. And they will have the gaul to think they are giving someone a bargain.

Ok I have had my '97 since brand new. I have had 0 down days due to motor issues. I have had problems with the drive line but that was due to over loading it and driving like a mad man after each BOMBing session. The morale of all this is that I paid $27,000 for mine brand new and it has been an excellent investment. So anyone who is DUMB enough to spend $52,000 on a truck that is already notorious for issues with the engine, DESERVES what they get. I have hated phurds since I was a little boy and will til the day I die. IMHO and my $. 02

Well, it was just last year... I was in the Ford Dealership checking out the 3/4 and 1 tons...

I test drove a 1 ton and well, seemed nice except for a sudden lurch in engine speed when I braked gently, sending the truck forward faster...

Then we got back to the dealership and shooting the bull about price while looking at the truck... I noted a small stream from under the truck... The salesman quickly stated it was there from a vehicle prior... Well, I checked under and it was the lower radiator hose leaking... When I found it he said it was a recall and would be fixed... I asked why it was not fixed prior to a customer taking it out... He could not answer...

Ya, it was a 7. 3 2002 I was checking out... But, I figure, what's the difference...

Have not

My son (the ford saleman) has been pressuring me to come up and test drive the new 6. 0 . I told him that there was not a chance in he11 that I would buy one. He continued for a couple of months and then fell silent. So at last meeting I asked him "How are the new PSs doing?" He told me that 7 out of 10 are coming back for warranty work. Mostly injectors and electrical bugs.

Lets see, my old 95 has 89,000 miles on it, just breaking in. Has had a fuel gauge, two fuel return lines, and front brake pads. Total cost Maybe two hundred or less. Why would I want to go and get a PS? I will have to put a new paint job on it soon, but that is fairly painless when the truck is paid for. :D Bombing to come at 100,000. Oo.

6.0 IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR !!

My nephew just bought a crew cab/short bed 4x4 6. 0 with the new auto trans. Last friday we pulled out of his driveway, and i was behind him in the old '92 (with tweeks),and i started to pass him. Before he knew it he was in the rearview (and my smoke !):D

He said he had nothing for me,and even tried the tow/haul button, but nothing worked. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the old GETRAG screwed up  #@$%!,and i had missed 5th gear !! I would say that his truck definetly isn't putting out what it should. I wonder if he would want run my'02 ETH-DEE ! :p

My $0.02

Wow. Several years ago, when I began researching which HD truck I would buy when I could afford it, I looked at each of the big 3. In the end, it came down to Ferd and Dodge. Reading through the Ferd forums actually cemented the idea of the Dodge/Cummins combination for me.

Sure, around here we complain about getting screwed by dealers, and we have our share of major failures (case in point - Whiteknight), but my goodness nothing like what goes on over in the Ferd camp.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

I've read some posts on the Ford site and I think it is funny how upset some of the members get if someone complains about their engine Cackle or other problem. They start calling the complainer a troll and wanting their VIN #. I think they call that denial :-laf

like i said these ford boys are loyal ass hell. they would probably drive a truck with a half cocked motor and still say its better than a cummins. you have to admire that kind of loyalty
