Johnboy,

Yes, there are nearly eight times as many posts and threads over at TheDieselStop than there are here. By "twice as many problem posts" I will assume you mean the ratio of problem posts to other posts is twice what we see here for the new Cummins. It looks much higher to me (and most of the TDR 3G "problem" posts are minor or not problems at all) but that isn't really my point here so I'll not argue about it. What I see, though, are BAD problems over there. Fuel in the oil, engines stalling out of the blue, and problems that trash the engine for example. And there are all the little things too like oil leaks, poor mileage, and computer problems. Most of the posts I read didn't sound like a bunch of whiners, they have some very real problems over there. I know they aren't a representative sample of Ford owners, just as we aren't a representative sample of Dodge owners, but I do believe it gives a clear indication that the PSD 6. 0 has some major teething problems.

And, no, I'm not saying this to bash Fords. I'm just reporting on what I see, as I see it.

I agree, it does sound like more serioous problems there. Hopefully they can get them corrected and get to be competitive with the Cummins. I wish them nor their loyal customers no ill.

Nobody needs that stuff and I wouldn't wish it upon anybody. (well maybe a select few :D )

I agree that the new engine does have some teething problems. In the posts that you mentioned I find it very odd that all these folks posting problems have less then 10 posts. I'm not denying there may be problems, just seems really unusual for a guy to register and post a big rant for his first post ever. I try to take the newbie posts with a grain of salt. You never know if they really know what they're talking about let alone their dealer.

That's funny it would make more sense to me. Newbie gets truck and has problem, starts looking on the web for a users group that might have knowledge of problem. Seems logical.

We were all newbies at one time. I still think of myself as a newbie.

I went to my first post and I joined because of a transmission failure at 102k. So joining because of a problem is more than reasonable. I have never once suspected someone over here was slandering to give dodge a bad name. I think that is a paranoia associated soley with the ford crowd. Ive even seen it first hand, lol.

Problems with my last truck, a 2001 Ram gasser, was what got me looking at these boards. Now I'm a newbie to the CTD world and I'm soaking it all in so I'll know how to avoid problems and how to handle those that will inevitably occur.

I got talking to a guy this morning while the E-Z Dumper was being installed in my truck. He pulled up in a Ford F-450 Superduty dumptruck with a 7. 3 Powerstroke and I asked him how he liked the truck. He said that it was a piece of $&!* and he will never by another Ford. Then he mentioned his dad's '02 3500 Cummins and told me how sweet it is.

Heres the best part. The guy informs me that his friend is a mechanic at a nearby Ford dealer and his buddy said almost every 6. 0 Powerstroke they have sold has been back to the shop for repairs and some have been back a few times.

I hope my Cummins just keeps chugging along because I will seize if my truck needs to go back to the shop over and over again.

Imills and bandunit,

Are you guys registered users? It still won't let me do it. Keeps sending me to the home page. Not that big of a deal. I already know what a pain it is to do a head gasket job on a 6. 9L. Not much room on the pass. side.

BM, the link works fine so it must be the settings on your browser.

I got it finally. I read Vaughn's post about the Connecting rod pictures. Had to cut and paste the address. I'm still figuring the computer/internet stuff out. Thanks for your help guys.

You guys should be thankful. If it wasnt for psd we wouldnt have anyone to beat except other rams. They are doing us a service by being there to beat and later taunt. Thank a psd owner today.

Yeah, but there motor revs higher, so we shouldn't be able to beat them. :D

not to mention, I guess this blows the chance of the 6. 0 power stroke hitting 1,000,000 miles. From that article it sounds like they are getting rebuilt on the assembly line. :D Just what I would want, a rebuilt motor in my brand new $45,000 truck:eek:

Be careful. He who laughs last laughs the hardest. While the 6. 0 has some teething problems. Its going to be a mean competitor. With the EZ that is coming out soon it has 25 more hp and 50 lb ft more torque than the ho cummins. I realise we already have injectors but they should have some soon also. I believe healthy competition is good for everybody.

I don't post very often, and don't really want to say anything bad about anybody or their pride and joy $50K truck, but I have to. A friend of mine bought a 6. 0 PS just before Christmas. It's been in the shop several times for engine/performance problems. The first time it went in, it had to sit at the dealer until the following week, waiting for the dealer's diesel mechanic to return from 6. 0 school before it could be looked at.

I owned an 83 Ford with the 6. 9 in it, and it wasn't too bad, but it had it's share of problems, the biggest was trying to keep head gaskets in it. Of course, when it was new, the only diesel competition out there was the Chevy 6. 2, and it didn't offer much of a fight! So far, my Cummins has had much less trouble for the miles than the 6. 9 did, so you know where my loyalty is.

All I ever say is this: I owned a Ford... ... . once. :-laf
