Makes the old saying of "never buy a new vehicle in the first year of a significant model change" even more valid... I owned an old "glow plug" ford before my CTD and even though it was pretty reliable, it did let me down with bad glow plugs once.



I've been watching the TDR to see if anyone is experiencing any significant engine/power train problems with the new CTD 3G. Time will tell, but I have more confidence in this engine than any Ford product...

A buddy and co-worker of mine was looking to buy a new truck and I tried to talk him out of the 6. 0, but he now has better than 10k miles on a 4 month old truck ( His first ever diesel) and you could not beat the grin off this guys face with a 2X4, has been all over the West Coast with it in the past few months.



Looks forward to getting some gauges and maybe an AFE intake system just for fun.

Not that I am a ford fan- but I do not want anyone to put out diesel disaters like in the 70's with GM making a warmed over gas motor into a diesel. It is nice to see everyone aknowledge that ford is not infallible, but I do want the bugs worked out.

"You can step on the gas one day and it will go really well, and the next day you step on the gas and it won't go at all. "



These guys must be using gas in their diesels

Whooo hooo! A ford running right might tow upwards of 7 tons... . that blows the 14,000 lb my puny 2500 will pull. And the 3500 does more. (is someone going to comeback with, "short or long tons?")



It really sucks when Ford screws up the diesel world with engineering nightmares like this. Don't these engines run in other vehicles with no problems at all? Who wrote this 'success story' at Ford?

DC bought my 98.5 back!

I don't think this is really that big of an issue. This is exactly why I did not get an 03 dodge and kept my 2500 and bomb'ed it.



I don't want to be on the front end of the TSB curve. 98. 5 had a ton of problems for me and spent 1 of the first 2 months I had it in the shop. NOT for the engine mind you but that is the problem with Dodge. Strong engine weak truck...

GM tried it more than once. Other than the 350, they also tried it with the 4. 3L V-6. They were used in the Celebrity and the Pontiac 6000. Maybe some others, but I know of those 2 for sure.



They had problems too. They used both cast and aluminum heads. Neither one was any good. They both cracked in between the valves.



Someone that I worked for while in school had one in a Celebrity. The original engine had a bad injector. It sprayed fuel at the aluminum head and ate a hole in it right into the water jacket. Blew a hose off the radiator.

Guess there are good and bad in every brand. I still like to see Americans buy American products. Have been leaning lately to the possibility of a new 04 Dodge CTD, but what is the confusing state of installing a common 5th wheel of your choice on these. ? Seems to me that D/C still does not know what these trucks are used for in this country. Certanily we tow more RV trailers than any country in the world. Wish that D/C would keep out of the Alps and get on the highways. Until the prototype models clean up their act, I will stick with my ancient and dependable first generation awhile longer.
