Poll: Navistar instead of Powerstroke

I like my truck now more than when I first got it. My biggest complaint, and worry, is the thinner sheet metal. Imagine if this stuff starts to rust, it will be dust in hours. :(

In addition to the CTD I like the styling, the 17" brakes, the stiff hydoframe (but they better get a handle on aftermarket bed installation in a hurry!), the 6 speed, the four doors w/o the full crewcab, the new improved steering, and the 373 pumpkin ratios.

I'm concerned the D in DC wants the bottom line and the heck with how they get there. What they don't understand(IMHO) is the typical CTD owner is very happy with their trucks but if the CTD, or a top notch alternative which presently isn't available, e. g. Cat or MB, went into one of the other competitors they would loose what market share they have gained in a heart beat. And they would have no one to blame but themselves for sacrificing quality to squeeze a bigger profit margin. Dodge needs to zealously protect the reputation they have built around the Dodge/Cummins relationship.

I was actually wondering this morning while driving to Lander how many trucks would DC have to sell to make up for the thinner sheet metal. If you lost X many sales because folks refused to by a chinsy truck or you got a bad reputation for being chinsy, where do the economic curves cross?

Chevy - no way, not interested. Ford - I like the leaf springs in the front end and the beefy "I'm a no nonsense truck" features.

thinner sheet metal??? Seem the trucks are getting More on the heavy side every year. Have you ever measured this against the older trucks? Not flaming, just asking. Hear this a lot, but does anyone have any facts?

Where is the Chevy/GMC with a 6. 0L option? This is the best combination you could ask for. :p I think if Dodge and Cummins divorced I would have to drive a Duramax. At least they can make a little torque under 4000 rpm. If Ford brought back the 7. 3L I could maybe drive one, but no 6. 0L for me.

Whats up with the 6. 0L anyway. Had one next to me at a stoplight the other day and it sounded like a 7. 3L, LOUD. I thought they were supposed to be sooooo quiet. This one was brand new too. The tailpipe was still shiny and temp tags.

Right. I keep seeing posts about thinner body panels but none that show a measure or specification of the gauge of steel used being different overall or in any particular panel of the 3rd gen trucks vs 2nd gens. Does anyone know?

now, if i couldn't have a cummins in my truck, i'd go with an duramax, but not quite the newest one cause it's got the egr system...
