Looking for a stock GM turbo

EPA Endorsing Diesels in Cars?

I wish the idiots running these so called real world tests would compare the 6 speeds. It never fails that: 1) They compare engines with that aren't even close in performance numbers, and 2) They use Dodge's proven crappy transmission to test against two autos which are in a whole different league. I'm not by any means trying to make excuses for the Dodge; however, let's compare apples to apples. And I think the only way, at this point, to do such a test, would be to use the big three's 6 sp. At least then the numbers would be more in line with one another.

Well, they were just testing autos. I agree the Dodge transmission sux. I wish they consulted DTT before building them, them the H. O. engine could have been used. I think it would have been a closer race. Oh well, I guess we will just be sucking soot in the stock auto races for another year. WAKE UP DODGE!!

Take a look at the hp on the graph. ? I'm I wrong or does it look to be only at 275hp-280hp instead of the 325hp they claim. The torque is right but not the hp. They are flywheel readings. Also lousy hp and torque curves. Peaks and drops instead of a nice long flat curve.

The HP curve does not jive. The curve doesn't seem to move that much. It stays at 500lb ft or better from 1500-3500 RPM. I would also like to see a 6 speed match up, as well as the auto's after Dodge gets one in the H. O. We should start seeing some dyno comparisons in the next month or so as well. Hopefully they can get some evenly matched/optioned ones on the rollers. It is nice to see all this power. The gassers don't seem to have any type of advantage except initial price... CJ

I had a little respect for the old 7. 3L PSD, but this thing looks like they are trying to make it more complicated than the space shuttle. Also, not real impressed by the power curves. It seems like the power band is going to be real limited.

Canister type oil filter!! Never did like these things and never will. Had to deal with a few tractors with these and I dreaded changing them. Personally, the placement on the 7. 3L PSD was pretty easy.

I guess time will tell, but this new 6. 0L has big shoes to fill to live up to the 7. 3L PSD.

Can't believe what these guys are saying.

(The Chevrolet was a 2003 Short Bed Crew Cab Single Rear Wheel with a 6. 6-liter Duramax and 5-speed Allison Automatic. )

The picture of the Chevrolet with the trailer above this statement was a dually?? :-laf Make you wonder what else Ford gave them to ride on their little paid for outing? I firmly believe that you have to drive them all and make up your own mind what truck and configuration works for you. The magazine guys are bought and paid for :(

We will

I sure would not want all that new stuff on a first year production. We will see how they hold up, it looks to me like they decreased the V on the engine?

So theoretically, my 235/460 auto can be expected to pull a 12,000 lb trailer up a 10 mile 5-7% grade at 60mph? It might not be the fastest but it's still the best. I'll take it!

Every grade I've encountered has been in traffic that wouldn't allow the full potential of the power I have bone stock. More power wouldn't make my trips any different. Besides, I wouldn't trade my Cummins for a PSD or Duramax if they had twice the power. :D

When my truck was stock (once upon a time) I pulled a 7000 lb trailer up the grapevine with the cruise control set at 75 mph for a bit to see if it could be done. I know I have an HO, but I think an auto would do fairly well too.

All three are rated to tow 12,000 lbs? I read it alittle differently.

I went back and re read it. It says 7,000 lb trailers but I know they don't all have the same 12,000 lb tow rating as the article would suggest. The literature is flawed.

If that's the case, they're full of sht! The limiting factor is then the rpm limits of the engine. Not towing ability. My 235hp/460lb ft auto/3. 54 has pulled our 7,000 lb 5th wheel with it's higher and wider face with more wind resistance 65mph up the grades in North Carolina in 3rd at 2500rpm. That's the advantage to the 3. 54 ratio. I CAN run in third up to 70mph right at peak HP. The 3. 73 or 4. 10 has the Cummins running out of breath at higher speeds in direct drive. And we all know that it's not a good idea to tow up a 7% grade in O/D. I'd like to see the same test done with 12,000 lbs. I've done the 7,000 lb test myself. Aren't the Duramax/Allison and Powerstroke capable of towing what they're rated to tow? I guess I'll get over it.

Hey CobraJet, what are you getting the Ford for, if you don't mind my asking? You getting rid of the Dodge? Or are you going to be a multi-cultural family? :D Oo.

John,

I am going to be multi cultural. I will keep the Cummins for work until my son starts to drive it in about a year. I really need a CREWCAB for towing the 5th wheel with the two kids. I was hoping for the real deal from Dodge... but we all know what happened there. I am in the process of taking the H. O. up another notch. A new Soutbend was installed today. Piers HX40 will be here soon as well as some BD 6's and their two stage NOS. I hope to have it all in and at the next dyno. I sold a 99. 5 PSD about 6 months ago. I had them both for about a year at that time. The Cummins is a great HOT ROD and work truck (20-22mpg), the PSD is great for the family and trailer. This way I can't really bad mouth either brand. I have owned two Cummins a 93 and the 01 and this will be my 4th PSD, 95,95,99. 5 03... all CREWCABS. The 95 was a shortlived 4X2. The rest were 4X4's. They have all been ROCK solid trucks... . CJ

CJ:

Thanks for the reply!

I agree with you that Dodge is definitely losing business

by not coming out with a "true" crew cab.

Take care and let us know how that new 6. 0 does!

ON ORDER: 2003 F350 CREWCAB 4X4, 6. 0 WITH 5 SPEED AUTO, KING RANCH WITH POWER SUNROOF AND ALL OTHER OPTIONS

What's a truck like this list for and what will it cost you? Is Ford doing the big rebate thing like Dodge?

Good luck with your new ride.

Pit Bull,

The truck stickers for 47,600. Dealer list is 41,200. I will pay X Plan which will be about 40,800. Ford is offering 1500. 00 rebates on 03's until 12/02. I may have the truck by then or I may not. The rebate will likely be extended. I also have a 500 rebate with AQHA, so the truck will run about 38,200+ TTL..... CJ

I was talking to a PSD driver this past weekend in Savannah. He had the site next to ours. I like the crew cab, fortunately, I don't have to worry about space anymore as it's just me and the wife. I do wish Dodge would get their act together and make a real crew cab. Good luck with both trucks, CJ.
