Mack Model R

PSD and fuel pressure

Just gives you such a warm fuzzy feeling not? Maybe I gotta go get me one of those 6-Liters. I need a good headache. Not!

Makes those overvalved pump failures pretty minor by comparison.

Im somewhat curious. If dodge released a diesel thats headed towards the lemon list. I would not defend dodge in any way shape or form. Im not a loyalist. But those boys still swear its the best on the market even though its ran into some serious issues. I do not understand some people. Its too bad ford did this to them but hey. If it blows. Id be the first to tell yah. As I recall this happened in 99 too. But ford knows as well as dodge and chevy. That diesel owners are the most fiercely loyal market segment out there. Maybe they were betting on it. I truly hope this debauchery bites em in the butt. So they can See what happens when you screw over your most loyal customers.

Yep, we bought (my wife I should say) bought a 2001 Stroke ONLY because of the seat issue. We didn't go new fyord due to the 6. 0, but could not go Cummins because they put the wrong seat configuration behind it.

There would have been no other consideration than Dodge if the seat was normal size on the 4-door. Heck the dang 4-Door Dakota had more knee room and more comfortable seats (smaller width-wise, but deeper seat).

foiled again,
jon.

let me clarify this i would never buy a ford just to get a little bigger back seat... ever! here is the choice one must make, two inches in the back seat or one of the best engines ever made. . hmmm let me think i will take the cummins every time :p

p. s my dad is 6-2 235 and he rode 4hrs in the back and commented at the end of the trip that the backseats are comfortable;) by the way he has a bad back

I'm 5'-15", and 165#. I can't stand the back seat, even if my arse is on the left and feet on the right. I am just grateful that I don't have to tilt my head to the side to keep from hitting the roof. There is no way I could take even an hour, let alone four in the back.

try sitting in the back of a citation or geo storm. And we complain about the back seats in our trucks. At least you can sit up straight uncomfortably. Rather than crinkin your neck just to fit.

That reminds me. The last time I was travelling. I rented a jaguar xk8. Nice but bad ergos for big people. It was convertible and there was no easy way to see out the front windshield. Not the point. The space between the front seat back and the back seat could be measured in milimeters. It was 1" maybe 2. Those kids better have skinny legs.

If you can afford a Jaguar- and the never ending business relationship with the mechanic that understands British electricals- I do not think the backseat is ever used. Because the other car would have to be the "practical" one. For that level of money an Escalade or an H2 to haul the kids around. :)

From what I hear, IH is not having near the problems with their version of the engine, but their max HP is alot lower than fords from what I understand

6. 0L Power stroke problems by Kyle Rapp

Well I sat down and read every thing I could find and the 6. 0 has a few problems.

First and foremost is the ICP sensor, it seems there is a very high failure rate, worse in cold claimants not only is the ICP a bad part, but, it is a real pain to replace and ford has flip flopped on how to replace it.

I made a socket and do it from the top, it works for me. I have also done it from the bottom, my problem is I can't always raise these trucks so from the top is the way for me.

Ford has a service action to replace this ICP and re flash the pcm, ficm. tcm all for 1. 4.

When doing this service action make sure you use a ICP with an EA and you re flash even if you have re flashed before and you must use the latest calibration on the b. 24 WDS.

Next there seems to be a problem with fuel in the oil and there seems to be multiple failures that cause this. one is the injector with a internal leak with fuel running out a weep hole and diluting the oil, another seems to be a broken fitting at the fuel rail and bad o-ring seals on top of the injector.

If you run into this problem FORD wants you to replace the turbo because the fuel diluted oil takes out the turbo bearings, they also want you to clean and drain the inner cooler or you could have a runaway, as for me if I ever get a runaway I will let it go, my personal safety is more important than that hunk of iron.

To find this problem you can use shop air and listen for the leak source or add dye to the fuel filter and run the fuel pump and with the valve covers off use your UV light to pinpoint the leak.

This engine also could have a no start condition this also could have a few reasons no oil pressure, leaky injectors, bad cooling fan, cam or crank position sensor, wires chafed behind one or more pulleys or bad EGR valve.

For the lack of oil pressure check the low pressure pump, it could be all scored up from a retaining clip from the injector hold down or the seal could be bad .

If the cooling fan shorts out then you lose power to the transmission range sensor and you get a no crank or no shifting of the trans.

On this motor the cam and crank sensors must work and be in sync or you will get a no start check wiring behind the feed pulleys for chafed wires then check sensors

FORD says an open EGR wont cause a no start or stall but it seems if you find one that is stuck open and replace it your problems are gone.

There are also other problems, you must cut the fan shroud to replace a drive belt,

The dipstick that you can’t read.

The water separator mounted on the frame rail.

The torque converter nuts that you cant see to remove or replace.

The lack of a way to turn the crank to get to the converter nuts .

I say more support to the support group. I really feel bad for the guys whose wives made them buy fords. :p But really it's super cool that mechanics can help each other and the ford boys this way. If this were just a few years back (before Al Gore invented the internet) all those poor fellas would be stuck in loaner Escorts for the duration.

I almost picked a race with a one-ton 6. 0 today. Now I'm really glad I didn't--poor fella has more (potential) problems than keeping up with me :p

I think the best thing these Ford guys can do is invest in magnets. One to stick on the oil pan to catch the metal shavings going through the motor and one to drag behind the truck to catch the parts as they come apart.

HOLY crudzappa!

Have you looked at all the problems? Can you say LEE-MOAN?

No not the race-- the stuper duty-Piece o' Sheet Diesel 6. 0 edition.

I'd wait for version 6. 1:rolleyes:
