A 6.0 with problems? Say it ain't so!

Duramax in orginal Hummer H1

Has anyone seen the Ford commercial where they say the new 6. 0L PSD is the longest lasting diesel engine in a pickup. I about died laughing when I heard this commercial. What a crock!! It hasn't even been out for 2 years and it is already the longest lasting engine.

My oil filter has a longer useful life than some of the 6. 0L have. I can't believe they can get away with that kind of advertising. They have a magazine add that is rather funny also. It shows a picture of an empty road and says something like: 4. 3 seconds ago a 13,000 lb gooseneck was parked here. With peak torque at 2K rpm it would be lucky to even move in 4 seconds.

Lets keep it real Ford!!!

336 miles

A buddy of mine who shall remain anonymous... haha... .

bought a new 6. 0 with all the bells and whistles, had a couple hundred on it and hooked up the 6000 lb trailer and... ... whoops couldn't handle it. Not sure what the problem is yet but let me assure you I was more than happy to go get his trailer for him... . MORE THAN HAPPY! He was not nearly as willing to talk about how great that truck is now. Maybe he will get a Cummins next time.

That is halarious. I don't see how they can say things like that in their advertisements without numbers to back them up.

Will

You don't get it - It is the longest Lasting - they keep giving you a new one!!!! How can you beat that!!! Except it's another of the same thing - Kind'a Like the Movie - Ground Hog Day!

Maybe they mean the longest lasting engine in a Ferd pick up. .

Or maybe they are adding in time spent in the shop.

Or maybe its the longest lasting on the used car lot.

Or maybe its the longest lasting on the road... because that's where they quit running.

Or maybe---I'll quit now--Drove f brand for a while--never again--the only thing that quits sooner than the truck is the company

Come on man... ... The Best Never Rest :p don't you know?

I guess this is why people buy them becuase they are so "popular". It's too bad marketing actually works sometimes:rolleyes: .

KIseminger, I wish you lived here in Colorado Springs, I wouldn't mind working for you with your own BOMB business.

As for the Ferd commercials, it is a crock. Go to www.thedieselstop.com, they will back it up as soon as they quit whining about their trucks. One minute its the best cause its running, then its a POS when it quits. My favorite is when one truck dies, so the owner gets a buy back, then buys another, then that truck starts acting up. Get a FREAKING CLUE!!!!

Nick-

I would love to think I could have employees, but it's not too much of a reality at this point. It's something I am going to atart out over the internet but don't even have a website. It may not happen until this fall because of some other things going on right now. So my advertising is word of mouth right now. So help me out people! Just kidding..... In all seriousness if anyone needs anything don't hesitate to give me a shout.

We have a F-550 w/ a 6. 0 at the Fire Department I work for but it only has 2k miles on it right now and is being used for a Wildland unit. I just hope it doesn't take a crap on an assignment this summer.

I have a 6. 0L PSD built in Feb 03. I traded for a 600HO Dodge 3500 dully because: Ford would not replace my injectors even though they changed to new design in Apr 03 on production line. Diesel fuel in Oil Report from Blackstone labs was less than 0. 5% at 5000 miles; 1. 0% at 10,000 miles; 2. 0% at 15,000 miles Ford said it was normal and would do nothing for me. Divorced Ford. Cozy Kline, The Old Fighter/U-2 Pilot

I had someone visit me at my house today driving a new F350 6. 0L. I asked him how he liked it and what kind of milage he was getting. He said it was a nice truck, but leaked oil a bit and he was getting 15 MPG.

Flying the U-2 must have been a blast! I have watched a few programs on those birds and would have loved to do that!

At the rate you were getting oil seepage you would have had 100% oil in fuel by my a calculated 45,000 miles! Woohoo! Wonder what kind of mileage 15-40 would give a 6 liter?

I am sorry to hear that but happy to hear you bought a Dodge/Cummins!

Nick

By the way, since when is 2. 0% oil in fuel normal???????

here is a story from this morning a guy that lives on my way to work pulls storage containers and i have been waiting to see him in a loaner truck (he has a brand new 6L) well this morning there he is not getting in his own truck but getting into a loaner. i guess he has had the loaner for 3 or 4 days now. i also have another guy who has a 6L it has yet to miss a day of sitting there on my way to work. i guess its only a matter of time. i have been watching him for 6months. his time is coming. although i hope it doesnt i wish ford and chevy would build a rock solid engine b/c they are not help the diesel grow in reputation of being bullet proof

You have to read the fine print on the bottom of the screen when autos are advertised.

My guess is that they are showing the 6. 0l but they statement is based on length of registration of Ford Diesels overall.

Just like Furd's claim of "best in class" horse power. Yes they have the same 325 hp in the 6. 0 as the Cummins 600 but the 600 produces it with 900 fewer rpms and has higher torque.

There is a retired M/Gen who flew the U-2 when I did at Laughlin AFB. I flew it from 1957 -1961. Pat later flew the SR71 and was the Wing Commander. He lives in Colorado Springs, and gives great talks about both aircraft. He is in the phone book... . It was lots of hard work and in the beginning very dangerous...

Not quite 900. More like 400.

Dodge had a commercial where 98% of dodges sold in the last 20 years were still on the road. 20 years impresses me more than 10. A lot more can happen in 20.

400 rpm's - I'm sorry. I had it written down somewhere but I could find it. Thanks for the corrections.

I took a close look at some the the Ford commercials this weekend. The FINE print indicates that all of their claims are based on the 1993 model year.

Funny thing is, they are showing the 2004 model year vehicles.

Thats Funny. 93 they didnt even make a PSD. Gotta love manufacturers and their stretching of the truth.

International did this not too long ago. Said they had made 2 million PSD. Then in the fine print they said they added in all the 7. 3s they had sold. Even ones that were not PSD nor were they in a pickup.

That is about as good as cummins 2 million b series. Which B?inquiring minds want to know. Well now there are 1 million cummins powered rams. Thatll at least give me a selection of used cummins for a few more years.

The actual numbers of the ford PSD were 1. 75 million 7. 3 PSD since the 95 model year. They produced them for a few more months after that. So as many as 120k more were built while they were waiting to launch the 6. 0.
