More info, with pics... Interesting twin-turbo setup. Looks like a great engine to dive into and start working on. Give me a Cummins anyday.



On another note... if Fords are so great, why is Dodge always a step ahead?

oh man the high lighted pic of the enigine is a nightmare when i get out of wyo im definatly not working for ford man thats gonna suck

I'm happy that Ford/Navistar decided to go back to a less complicated design to improve reliability over the 6. 0L. :rolleyes:

Powerstroke with common rail sounds like a good deal to me. They just wiped out 90% of their problems right there.

:confused: Ford is announcing an engine that out of the box isn't the best in class? The current GM/Duramax is 360/650... the new Ford/Intl is 350/650. We <B>know</b> Dodge and Cummins are going to beat these numbers... unless they all have agreed that 650 lb-ft is some kind of "cap" for liability reasons.



March 1 is just a week away...
 
Word on rv.net is that Ford is comming out with the 6. 4 because the 6. 0 would not meet emissions, not because of any problems with the 6. 0.

Of course it won't meet emissions.



You have to get it started to do the test!!
 
Well, all I can say is that I know that the Cummins is one of the strongest most reliable diesels on the market. I know that it's been arond for a long time and is used in a verity of different trucks "not just dodge" and if taken care of will last. That means more to me than the name of the truck I drive. I don't have to drive just a Ford, Dodge or Chevy. "not brand loyal" I drive what I know will be worth the money in the long run. "Cummins" Those poor hard headed brand lovers get what they deserve when the buy these new 6. 0's and this new un proven "better do somthing to save our ***'s" 6. 3 motor... . just my 0. 2 worth

Matt, are you high? Nah, just kidding. You do have a point though. Now if they would just make that engine a straight six it would be even better. The HPCR is a good start on making it better. The HEUI oil-pressure actuated injectors sounds like dumb idea from the beginning. Finally they get HPCR.

I keep trying to figure one thing out. Across the board our injectors are getting tighter tolerances, why are we extending the fuel filter change mileage? Is it worth the $$ to not change the filter when an injector sticks?

maybe higher capacity filters are being used... the less times you open up that filter cartridge, the less chance of external debris entering the clean side of the fuel sub system

HEUI is a great idea, it's just time to move on to a simpler setup using current technology. HEUI is basically the same thing as what we call common rail, just instead of using a high pressure fuel pump it uses a high pressure oil pump.



So, if you think about it, the Powerstroke was really the first to implement a common rail style fuel system. All the way back in mid 94, 7 years before the duramax, and almost a full decade before the Cummins.



I really do believe this new motor is going to be great. I'm sure Ford knows they dropped the ball with the 6. 0, and I'm guessing they don't want it to happen again.



I will say this much, no matter how much I may want one, I won't be one of the first guys to buy one.

i agree matt,the heui on the powerstroke was ahead of its time when compared to others. its a system that has many good points,but it has a couple of bad ones also. for instance the injectors dont tolerate poor fuel well,plus the power playing level is limited by them. with the high pressures they run,they will also eat a piston quickly when they fail,this is something the new commonrail cummins is dealing with by using higher pressure injectors aswell . its also recomended by ford and ih to not add most types of fuel treatments to the fuel. the 6. 0 got off to a bad start in the fords,but according to at least two connections i have at different ih dealers its treated them better in there applications. with the introduction of a new fuel system and some other changes,maybe the 6. 4 will be the real deal for ford. .

prediction: 6. 4 gonna be the real deal! already has, twins,stronger head gaskets. They will be making 500 all day chipped out. gonna be fast! the competition gonna get steep. Cummins still gonna rule with the 6. 7, cp4, vgt will be doing 500 also easy. the monster is growing. .



a good 6. 4 is going to be great for us... . competition!!

Ford had spring front 4x4 in 89 as well. My 84 and 88 IDIs had leaf springs.



I agree with catrcasker- competition benefits the consumer.



IN regards to the HEUI- I see the Cummins engine as superior, due to the fact Ford and Chevy HAD to go to electronic controls to meet Egotistical Pinhead Admin requirements- wouldnt pass with mechanical. Cummins met the specs with mechanical injection up to 98. HAD to go to electronic to meet 98 and then HPCR in 04. HEUI is an unnecessarily complex design with more moving parts and subsystems then needed to get the job done.
