6.5 Turbo Has me Stumped

My neighbor's cousin stopped by and I heard the truck make a really bad rap (Ball Peen against an anvil sound) at idle.



Back when I had My 6. 5 it made a similar noise (2000 mdl year) and come to find out the inspection lookin like plate had a harmonic vibration but was very light in sound.



This truck was RAPPIN BIG TIME kind of non rythmicly. I discounted a bad rod because of that but now I winder if I was wrong. He has had great luck, runs great and man It was certainly an awesome truck (Contractors Body) clean and upkept. He fears a pushrod me I was left ??? how.



Anyone wanna take a stab at what this coulda been?

I still say not a rod and keep in mind this truck is showing no oil pressure loss.

I work on A LOT of 6. 5L engines... I hope I can help, but I need some more info first...



Auto or manual trans?

How much blowby? (pull oil fill cap and run motor)

Other than the noise, does it run smoothly?

Any smoke?

Does the engine start well?

Is it temperature related?

What model year is it?

Well Evan from the few short minutes I had I gathered that it was a

1999 ,

Ran Smooth (Asked how does it run) ,

Not Temperature related (I asked about what oil he was using (GM 15 40 stuff) ,



Automatic (Cause I asked him if it gave him any trouble)



I may see him over there tomorrow when I get home ... If I do I will check Blowby, Smoke at idle , Under load, and off.

That would be great! It almost sounds like it could be a stuck injector... Don't want to point any fingers yet.

if it is a bad injector, sounds like a good time to pop in some bosch hi pop injectors [marine injectors iirc?] they are good for a little more pep. bd and kennedy diesel sell them.

Well Saw him Today and bad news.



The #7 Piston skirt (or chunk of the piston itself) had fractured maybe 1500 miles ago (about when the noise started) and finaly on wednesday had broken off :'( falling into the crank case bashing the crank chopping it up into bits over time and finaly wiping out the main bearings , oil pump ... ... the works. The good thing is that he had bought a 2000 truck on ebay a few months back that was wiped out badly in the rear (Included the back of the cab too) so he is doing a heart transplant next week. I gave him the BD info and he is taking the plunge along with an exhaust.
