Diesel Truck Harley-Davidson owner survey

Which CTD do you own?

I voted yes because I've run several 6. 2 & 6. 5's and had reasonable success. The 6. 2 will give exceptional fuel economy but may have a little difficulty getting out of its own way. The 6. 5 is slightly thirstier than my Ram. They run smooth and quiet (for a diesel). The only problem area that I encountered was the electronic fuel injection pump. Warranty took care of those...

I would buy another if it met the requirements. I like driving my 2 door Pukon with the 6. 5 TD. :D It will surprise most gassers of similar vintage while passing up the fuel islands.

ooh yea one thing i didnt mention is that is has a brand new injection pump on it and a 3 month warrentee on the truck and this truck wont ever tow more then a few sleds or a demo derby car or some quads but thats it so it will be used very gentally

Well, it sounds like you have made up your mind. You should hop on to some of the Chevy boards and learn up. Remember, it is very important to relocate the PMD (pump mounted driver/ fuel solenoid device) as soon as possible away from the engine to avoid cooking it. This was the number one IP related problem with these engines IMHO. Enjoy the new truck.

We had a 1990 7. 3; it was slow, but never left me stranded and I never put a dime into it other than regular maintenance over the course of 200k. It really needed to be plugged in under about 25F, or it was a real SOB to start. I sold it to a guy in the next county over. He still runs it every day. I think it is a better motor than the electronic GM 6. 5L. Sometimes I wish I still had it.

There is a 93 Dodge 4x4 with a plow in the want ad digest that needs a transmission for $2000 and a 94 that looks pretty good for $7500. Check out WANT AD DIGEST type in diesel in the search

i went and looked at that 94 it was a POS it had about a foot of oversteer and had been beat to **** im thinking that 93 is pretty beat too it has prolly plowed its whole life thats prolly what caused the transmission to go south theres a black 93 F350 that dont look too bad im goin to call the fella tomorrow

i voted yes,i have had very good luck out of my 6. 2 and 6. 5 diesels, still own most of them. several of them have seen some serious abuse and loads,no probs. do they have the potential of a cummins or a powerstroke,no,but they are easier to work on if you have too,and cheaper. as mentioned, the 94 up years had the computer controlled pumps, they were know to be problematic, however there are aftermarket fixes out there...

2000 3500 1ton dump with 6. 5 is my work and plow truck at my job. I wouldn't want one. There's almost 50,000 on it and it spends more time at the dealer than plowing snow or on the job. You realy can't compare it to a Cummins. My foot is pushing the radiator when towing anything and they like to get HOT. Your constantly watching the temp gauge when towing. I know it ate 2 injection pumps already and has gone through a couple of exhaust manifolds. They just seem high maintenance.

we have one

we bought our 93 6. 5td in 95 it had a 5 speed transmission and it has 200,000 miles on it and stil running tough :--)
