Engine Light at 3300 Miles

I've had my 2008 for about six weeks now and have about a thousand miles on it. I've checked fuel mileage twice, getting 16. 2 and 16. 8 hand calculated with mixed driving but more highway than not. . The overhead readout showed 20. 0 mpg on the 16. 8 calculation, so I won't put much faith in that. I was wondering what sort of highway mpg people with several thousand miles on the truck are getting. Thanks.

Just got back from a 5000 mile trip. Never went over 70 mph and only had about 300 lbs in bed. 95% interstate. Hand calculated every tank and it ranged from 16. 2 to 17. 3 mpg no matter what. I even drove at 65 for an entire tank - no change. Got 15,000 miles so it may never improve. Bummer!!!:mad:

I wouldn't bet on that. I think you are only halfway, probably less, to realizing better milage. Lots of empty driving doesn't help it improve as much as lots of heavy hauling. I never noticed the big gains on any of my 5. 9s until after 30k miles with lots of towing. The guys who don't work them often don't see gains until 50k miles:eek:

Just be happy you have a decent OD gear. My G56 keeps the rpms up and my best with 86k miles is 18 mpg.

Just got back from a race in Henderson Nv. tonight,Towing the jeep on a 2 axle car trailer and some spare parts in the bed, the overhead never went over 9. 2! It took 34 gal from Los Angeles to the out skirts of Henderson, filled up and went to state line and back to Boulder and back to state line 21 gal, stoped in Mojave on the way back and topped off with 12 gal. Not good!! same trip with the 05 was 29 gal up and 24 gal return. But on a good note this thing tows like a dream, the 6spd auto and exhaust brake were the perfect combo!! This thing has great power stock!! Just wished the milage was better!!

Just ran a trip to the coast and back. Most of the trip 55-60 MPH on rural highway. Almost ideal conditions for a mileage run. Truck was empty.

17. 2 MPG going over, and 16. 6 coming back. Hand calculated.

I only have 3,000 miles, so I hope mileage improves. My '99 and '93 would get 20-21 MPG on the same run.

Just bought mine this Saturday and on the 300 mile trip home got 12. Feels like about 1/2 the power of 02 it replaced. Will have to abuse it some to break it in I guess.

Just got my 08 one week ago. First Tank got 13. 5 mpg. Can't wait to pull after 500 miles.

08 3500 4X4, SRW, Mega, SB, 68RE, 4:10

My MPG is also at about 16 MPG with 10K on odometer, lets face it everybody these trucks have a restriction on the exhaust and is the reason we will never see the same MPG again with this setup. :{

My 03 driving quiet 2 lane and staying around 60 with some moderate 65 mph last week got 16. 7! For NEW trucks your alls mileage sounds ok at least to me.

That is a factor but their is a lot more to it than that. I see you have a bluewater boat how do you like it? I have a 05 reinell that is a pile of junk, with the 270hp motor it won't pull me out of the water on a set of skis! Same manafacture cal custom very poor customer service!!

Change your prop pitch to a lower #. I have the 4. 3 V6 and pull skiers out of the water with no problems (ya I know small V6, and to think I ordered it that way :{). You can PM me so we dont hyjack this thread, but your problem is probably just your prop pitch.

mpg has improved

my 07 chassy gets 19+ if keep it under 65mph empty. first 5k miles i towed between 18 and 20k of hay 500 miles on interstate through mountains 8 mpg
