Really really dumb question! Can the muffler from a 6. 7 pickup replace the muff on a 05 5. 9? If anybody has done this, do you have picks?

Not saying it could not be done... ... ... but it would not be a simple direct bolt fit as the 3rd GEN 5. 9L mufflers are bottom inlet / top outlet oriented. The 6. 7L mufflers are bottom inlet / bottom outlet.

I have seen the 6. 7 muffler, it is straight through and is only like 12 to 18 inches long, I think someone posted about this with pictures a while back. Anyway, it isn't much of a muffler, the DPF seems to kill all the exhaust noise the muffler doesn't seem like it does much, you could do it but you would have to weld on some pipe to make it longer, you might as well just do a straight pipe, it would probably sound about the same and I think someone makes a bolt in straight pipe to replace the 5. 9 muffler, I think they Genos garage has it.

Most aftermarket free flowing mufflers are straight through flow, like M. B. R. P. , and others. Having said that, I have seen and heard a straight piped 5. 9 and 5. 9s with an M. B. R. P. and one with a Magnaflow and there is a huge difference between the muffed 5. 9s and the strait piped 5. 9. These mufflers are not that much different than the 6. 7 pickup muffler.

Ok; The reason for my original post is that I was able to get hold of an 08 muff for about 10+ bucks from a local dealer. The customer wanted dual straight pipe s on his or her new truck. The parts guy didn't know what to do with the stock muffler, so I offered to by him lunch! Since the hangers on both mufflers are very close to being in the same local, I thought maybe they might hang the same, or near the same?

P. S. Just thought it would a better performing muffler than stock at less then half the price of an aftermarket one!
