DPF and More Power

Thanks for the reply Mopartech. Has the magazine had any write up on if should be using a fuel additive? I have just ordered the Turbo Register Diesel so I don't know if anyone has written about additives.
There are a lot of threads on the TDR on that subject and you will find them if you do a search. My opinion is only use additives when its an extreme situation such as below zero weather. The problem is the DPF can eventually plug up because the system can not burn the additives properly. I'm sure you will get lots of other opinions the other way, but these new motors are designed to run the new ULSD fuel.

And I love my 6. 7 and i'm glad I didn't listen to the negative threads on the new tech.

Welcome to TDR and look forward reading more posts from you.

I noticed that one of the additives I was looking at recently had a comment on the label specifically to this effect that it is ok in the new emissions systems, maybe it was Redline's 85+? I can look on the bottle if anyone is interested.

I am very glad to see so few problems:) It looked pretty touch and go at first, lots of unhappy campers while the bugs were being worked out. I was getting worried that after my '06 I would have to buy a used truck to stay with the 5. 9, but it sounds like things have worked out great! Even the milage numbers are coming up, which is even better news considering the price of diesel.

I told my dealer who's looking for a 1-2 year old truck for me "no way, you're not getting me into one of these new 6. 7s with all that emissions junk and extra technology, make it a 06-07 5. 9 or no deal. " But now reading about all the happy new 6. 7 owners, I'm thinking I might have to go eat my words and take a new one for a test drive. I'm a 12 valver, what can I say:eek:

The reason I am so obsessed with this additive question is because of the lack of lubrication in the "new" fuel. The higher sulfur content kept the injectors from wearing because of the fuels "rough" sandpaper quailty. I have talked to a couple of drivers who have had what they thought were injectors that had failed. My personal mechanic is in favor of the additive because of is lubrication qualities. I can't remember the year of the first diesel fuel reduction in sulfur, but at the time they suggusted running Standyne in my 6. 2 GMC diesel. So please keep pointing me in the right direction. Thanks

Ok, Redline has a few different diesel additives out there but the stuff I use is Redline's 85+ (or 85plus). I feel that Redline is one of the few companies out there serving us that have built their reputation on proven results as opposed to high-budget advertising campaigns, as opposed to someone like Fram (just as an example). Ok, that's my 2 cents about Redline, at the end of the day people have to make up their own minds anyways. "You are your own warranty station". I'm not going to type out everything on the bottle, but it says in two separate sections these three statements:

- This diesel fuel additive complies with the federal low sulfur content requirements for use in diesel motor vehicles and non-road engines
- Will not harm exhaust traps or catalysts.
- EPA registered additive for diesel fuel.

Ok, that's all I know. Like I said, I use it on my 95, I like it, and the sentence "will not harm exhaust traps or catalysts" is enough that I would use it in a new model truck without concern. Before I started using it, I got some data sheets on it from Redline that show their findings of significantly improved lubricity over what I think was ULSD, but it has been a couple of months since I read through it all.

07. 5 6. 7, had the P0128 code for awhile, dealer replaced the thermostat, did a software upgrade, 10,000 miles later I am happy. Had a cable replaced to the sirius radio, and the front end shimmy taken care of at dealer cost (there was a TSB on it) and no problems... . it is exactly as it should be and runs circles around my 2000. Glad I upgraded, and stll happy to own a Dodge

6.7L Problems

There are still 6. 7L problems out there. I know because I am one of them. You don't hear about them because Chrysler makes you sign a non-disclosure statement. :-{}

Hypothetically of course, what might the trade off be for the person with the warranty problems be to sign the non-disclosure?

As someone about to buy, I'm wondering whether for the most part most owners are relatively free of major troubles or if there are a lot more problems out there, but everyone is under non-disclosure contracts.

Had the PLEASURE of driving a buddy's 6. 7 for the last 12 hrs... ... Road sodas & all... . After pounding the **** out of his Mega cab shortbed 4x4. Here are my test results... I'M SOLD !! THIS TRUCK HAULS *** !!! I'm hooked. I forgot how much i missed the automatic... Shifts smooth & LOVE the exhaust brake. I wish the overhead display worked like my '02 though. We managed an average of 20 mpg @73mph with 3. 73 gears with the cruise set. Took my parents out for dinner & they felt like they were riding in a limo compared to my Quad cab. We took a drive through the local dealer, and i fell in LOVE with a Mega cab dually they just got in... . At least i should have a good trade in my '02 's paid for. I

I just traded my '02 for an '08. So far I am completely amazed at how awesome the '08 is! I was really reluctant to move into a third gen, especially in fear of the 6. 7. However at this point this new truck does everything I had wished my '02 would have done. The 6 spd auto with exhaust brake is sweet! And the truck just drives so much nicer. Reverse gear is even a little lower, wich is really nice. So far I am not looking back at all.

For what reason would an owner sign a "non-disclosure statement"?

Can any TDR member who is a Dodge service department technician/employee confirm this and provide an explanation?

Ordered 3500 Ram in Dec-2007 and received it on 18-Feb-2008. We have 2500 miles on it (not many, I know). Tow a horse trailer (~8-9K). So far, 11 mpg towing and 14-15 mpg unloaded on highway. Never owed a Dodge before and I'm pleasantly surprised and pleased (I can hope for better mileage, but it does very well what its designed to do and what I expected it to do). No problems so far. The exhaust brake is great and works very well with the 6-speed auto. The exhaust brake integrated w/ the transmission is a very under valued feature on the Dodge from the magazine articles that I have read.

I have never seen that but perhaps it was part of a buy back agreement???

I would suggest that as everything else in life the happy owner may tell a few friends... ... ... ... . the unhappy will tell everyone he possibly can. The percentage of trucks with serious issues is Very low. The annoying a bit higher.

I know some trucks have had as many as 4 flashes for the ecm to try and get it it to run good,no codes and still pass emmisions. The latest includes a visor sticker,a dvd ,flashing the ECM and the ccn to change the language of the warnings on the overhead.

Bob, that's a good point. Squeaky wheels getting the grease.
