This was a poor decision on management's part IMO. Ford should have stuck with their core business and kept the FTO and HD truck division instead of getting involved with Jaguar and Volvo.

IF its a software issue, there is some good and some bad.....

Good thing is there wouldn't be a massive cylinder head recall for thousands of C&C trucks... . It would be a relativley painless for procedure to fix new trucks on the assembly line and in dealership lots.....

The BAD part is for those of us who have already logged thousands of miles with this condition happening... . I'm sure some bean-counting idiot has already been crunching the numbers and decided if we don't have symptoms of a failure, they will simply dump the corrective software in it and consider the situation closed.

If the engine gets out of warranty before having a nozzle crack or exhaust valve fail due to the extreme heat... guess who gets stuck holding the check????

Hmmm. Seems i remember someone leaning toward a fuel mapping/programming issue, back when the first engine failed! As for the 6. 6 going under the hood of a pickup, wont happen without a dog house. Both the 7. 8 and 6. 6, share the same deminsions, same block. .

Extended hood and possibly a body lift, depending on the truck model. Those engines were a bit tall also. I have had both the 6. 6 and the 7. 8 in dump trucks, as well as bought and sold a few in school buses. I pondered doing a 6. 6 repower on an old f450 with a gasser. It was doable with a doghouse , but the lack of od transmission options i had to work with was the hangup. .

I'd like to trade my trouble free Ram 3500 w/104k miles for one of those new Furds. I like the idea of having the dealer remove the entire cab, fenders, and hood twice a year to make engine compartment cleaning easy.

As I have said in the past, the 4500-5500 Ram is the way to go in that market. I'm starting to see more of them as utility trucks and tow trucks. The new Ford may be OK, but why take the chance if you're dependent on its uptime?

I agree 100%.

A year ago I was wandering around in "cajun" land around Lafayette, LA. Major oil activities are or were going on south of that area. I was surprised and impressed with the numbers of oilfield hotshotter trucks pulling large tandem dually flatbeds loaded with oilfield equipment I saw on the highways. Almost all of them were Ram 3500s and 4500s.

If I were a full-time hotshotter hauling heavy everyday I think I'd choose the 4500 also. The 4500 probably rides very nicely with a heavy trailer on the ball.

Sorry guys, maybe you misunderstood... the engine DID grenade. This is the new engine that is having the regen/cel issues.

The truck IS alive, now that it has received its Donor heart...

Sorry. I was confused and forgot where you were as of last report. I was thinking you recently had another one with a blown engine. I was confused by the post earlier today. Now I'm up to speed.

The new engine is screwed up also? You gotta hand it to those Furd engineers. They've designed and built the most complex and probably most expensive engine ever built besides an exotic Italian Ferrari or Maserati and it is already showing signs of being another disaster.

I think I'm going to enjoy this new Furd in-house 6. 7 as much as I did the Sick. Ohhs.

Well... its back in the shop... turbo on this one gave up the ghost also... constant CELs causing limp noodle derates!!!!

I heard today that the "writing is on the wall". We will NOT be replacing our 100+ unit fleet with Fords. . I hear that the Navistar is the new front runner... . but thats not official.

I wonder if it has something to do with the loads you're hauling everyday?

I wouldn't imagine that the engines would be a different design from the others going in the light duty versions.

I have a vague memory, I think it was when your company was preparing to receive several of those new Furds that you posted about it and posted the first details and photos of that new small fleet of Furds. My guess is Furd discounted them deeply or offered some significant incentive to get your company to buy them with high hopes of getting them out in the field where they would be visible and help them sell lots of them. Furd was probably counting on a big fleet sale to your company and all the oil and field service companies they could reach.

Nice try Furd. Three failed engines in a row and a big blow to their truck sales.

To move to Navistar they'll have to step up to a Class 6 truck with a real diesel engine, an inline 6, right? The comparable Navistar in a Class 5 will have a lousy Navistar V8, either a detuned Sick. Ohh or Sick. 4.

A couple of years ago, one of our neighbors was building a large lake on his property. The contractor had two CAT dozers and CAT track hoe on the job as well as a large JD track hoe. The CAT dealer service trucks that serviced the CAT equipment were medium duty F750 size Fords. I don't know which CAT dealer was servicing the equipment, but the contractor was from Paris, TX and does a lot of work for TXDOT. Could that have been the your CAT dealership?



If it was, why the change to smaller trucks?

Actually, a similar statement could have been made about the earlier Sick. Ohh engines Fuyd sold between 2002 and 2007. A lot of owners who didn't haul heavy loads in a regular basis still believe their Furds and Sick. Ohh V8s are good trucks. It was when those trucks were placed in service hauling moderate to heavy trailers on a regular basis they all failed.
