This past weekend, I took the injectors out and soaked them in PS Diesel Kleen (1-2mm of carbon build up, thanks to previous owner's lack of supplements). Came out fairly easy, and went back in just fine. Now #6 injector makes a hissing noise at every "fire. " I have loosened and retightened the line about a half doxen times now, and no change. Will this just go away, or do I need to do something? IT is not leaking, at least that I can see, and runs smoother than before. I am trying to sell it, (but not after a 1200 mi trip back to MO) and it wont sell if it is making that noise under the hood.

Sounds like some carbon may have gotten in the injector sleave into the head and the gasket is leaking compression pressure. You may have to pull the injector back out and see if there is something embedded in gasket on the end of the injector. Without fuel leakage it sounds like compression leakage.

I agree with LilDog. When I replaced my injectors, #6 had a lot of corrosion down in the bore. There is a special brush that is used to clean the bore, I used a shotgun cleaning brush for mine. When I finished cleaning, tried to get all the crap out using a rag and probe but ended up taking the airhose to it. If there is any dirt left laying at the bottom of the bore, the sealing washers will not seal. If this is what happened, you may need a new sealing washer after you clean the bore. Hope this helps.

thanks, guys. I had called around about it, and no one at Auto Zone, Carquest, et al, knew what I was talking about, so I jsut gave up on it for now. I am leaving in the morning to get a trailer, and it seems to run fine- actually runs smoother, even with the compression leak, than before. when I get to MO, I will check things out. Farmer I will be working for has a good shop set up as far as tools and things. I think I will leave the others alone- if it aint broke, dont fix it till it is like our govt does. #5 itself was real corroded onthe outside, but went back in fine. Gonna do the same thing on Mom's 92, only have a bore brush handy. Thanks again guys. Will report later on trip and move. Supposed to snow, but I can just go a little slower. Gonna haul Mom's car on a flatbed, then stack stuff in front of it, then tie it down (not much stuff to haul that wont go in the cars- 2 dressers, metal desk, file cabinet, weight bench, bed) and tarp it. Beats trailer from Uhaul.
