I am going for a 6'' llift on my 93 CTD 4wd 5spd. Anyone know a good product to buy. I heard that ranch RS9000 shocks are good. Am looking for the most decent ride I can get, while still having good functionability.

Thanks in advance, Alex.

okay, i'll bite...

i believe most people on this forum will tell you to get yourself a "softride" kit from skyjacker. part no. D692CDK will get you new 6" front springs, a 4. 5" block to replace the factory 6" block in the rear, and some add-a-leafs to boost your factory rears.

alternatively, you can get part no. D692CDKS, which will get you the same as above except you get new springs for the rear instead of the add-a-leafs... something i would opt for if it was my choice to make. i'm not a fan of add-a-leafs... ever!

can't tell you about skyjackers since i don't own them. perhaps some other folks will cough up their experiences for you. don't quote me on the part numbers if you end up with skyjackers, but whatever you do and wherever you go for springs make sure they know you got a cummins under the hood! if not, your new springs will likely sag under the weight. :{

good luck!

why 6 inches... of lift?? You can fit 35" with some fender trimming with a 2 1/2 kit and this will be taller than most furd SD's with 4-6 kits. .

I have riden in and driven trucks with the lift you are talking and they look great but ride and handle rough. and when you get up that high the bed becomes useless... just keep that in mind I am not trying to change your mind just make you aware. .

I had a furd with 44" and 10" of lift that looked great rode like crap and was useless off road. . and loved to break axles... It is a lot of money for something you may not like. . find one with a lift already and if you can drive/ ride in it so you know what it will be like. I wasted alot of money on something that looked great but I was never satisfied with. .

I have the 2 1/2 skyjacker kit and it lifted my my truck almost 4 inches over the saged stock springs, running 33's with a rear locker I can go most anywhere. . and even fully compressed in the front I dont rub. . BTW the skyjacker springs are great. . I have run up to 10k lbs on the truck and 9k lbs on a trailer together with no issues or sway. . good design and quality... in my experience. . very little sag. I am impressed.

On the shock question. . a 73-87 chevy dual hoop mount for the front will fit with some modification. . and most people out here are running Fox remote mounts. . they aren't cheep but work great with the nasty washboard roads out here... If you dont want to spend that much the 2 ranchos or any other quality shock works real well on the front. . If you take a look most of the aftermarket shocks are made by Monroe or someone else with a different lable... When I did my blazer a few years back we went to napa and went through the book found some Monroe HD's that were the right size and used them-- lifetime warentee, low cost, and you can get them anywhere. just a thought...

Good luck on whatever you do, do some searching in the off road forum... there is some stuff there.

I have the 4" Skyjacker Soft Ride in my '92 and LOVE it. The ride is actually improved over stock in my opinion (the soft ride springs are only in the front, so the rear still rides... like a truck). If 6" is what you want, I say go for it. Keep in mind that you'll have to change the drag link, pitman arm, and drop the sway bar up front to get the steering geometry correct. Also, all the shocks have to go too... I know this because I just went through it with the 4" lift. I posted some pictures of it in my "readers rigs" so you can see what the 4" kit looks like and then decide if 6" is what you want.

I've had both the 4" Skyjacker and the 5. 5" Superlift and I prefer the ride from the Skyjacker. BHiggins has some good points about the steering. Also, with a 6" lift your front drive shaft may be to short. My crew with the 5. 5 suffers from a driveline vibration at about 35-40 mph due to the angle on the shaft.

I have an 83, not diesel but a Small Block & A/T to Big Block & M/T conversion and 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton conversion, that I used the 6" Skyjacker Softrides in the front and used the 8" Skyjacker softies in the rear with a smaller tapered blocks. I hate using the taller blocks in the rear... . Dual Skyjacker Nitros per wheel each-front and rear and dual steering stabilizers... . I also used the adjustable draglink and the 3" pitman arm block... Also have a 3" Body Lift w- poly bushings through-out. Truck has plenty of clearance for the 35" tires I run- even when I air the truck out in the woods... ... ... .

Had the Ranchos and I didn't really like them cause they didn't last too long on both my gas and diesel trucks... . FYI.

I bought the softride 2. 5"ers for mine with a set of 6"ers for the rear. I haven't installed the fronts yet, but I have confirmed they are the same height as the rock hard lift springs I currently have. I have my 35s back on my truck for now. With this set-up, I get a tiny bit of rub at the rear of the inner fender with the wheels turned about 1/2 to 3/4 lock. If you aren't gonna wheel it, you'd never notice. If you are gonna wheel it, about 5 min with a hammer is all it would take to make them clear. Man, I've had these things for over a year, I really need to get on it!?

Can you elaborate this modification? And which company hoop was this with? What about the lower mounting point?

I'm looking for some alternative ideas in the shock placement ... ... . maybe add some additional shocks...
TIA..... RD

havent done it . . have seen it on two trucks (couldn't find owner) and am trying to find someone who has done it... but it looks like it works looking for some pictures of the dual top mounts for chevys 73-87... what I have heard is you can use the rancho bracket with some modification...
