Late model trailer plug diag.

Twice when I have pulled trailers normally pulled by Fords, I have had to change the brake wire to get brakes to work. (The brake wire has to be moved from one of the outside holes to the large center hole in the trailer plug. ) I use a 6 way to 7 way adapter. The trailer I've used that is normally behind a GM product was not a problem. Is this a problem with the 6 to 7 way adapter, or are the Fords wired differently???? When I buy a trailer, I'll have a 7 way plug put on immediately so I don't have to mess with the adapter, but until then I would like to know where the problem is.

Thanks!

You'll find them wired both ways. The better adapters have quick-change sockets for just this problem. I just carry 2 so I have one wired each way.

better adapters?

Where do I find the "better adapters" with quick change sockets? I would like to have another one, so I don't have to change plug pin-outs on a friends trailer when I use it.

Sorry, I've never seen one on the shelf, just in someone elses tool box. I just bought two of the cheap ones at Wally World and dismantled one to switch the wires.

napa can get them for you in just about any configuration, they have a large section in their catlogues, but they are pricey.

Dunno what to say. My son has a 2k SD f**d / w factory trailer pkg and it has 7 blade just like my RAM. Must be the sleazy F**d guys messing with you. Last 6 pin I had was in the early 80's, even my old fb came from the factory w/ 7. Could it be the F**d guys are stuck in the 60's or 70's.
