The plastic shift pattern gismo on top of my shifting lever is turning clockwise slowly. Everything seems tight but in 5000K miles it has turned about 90 degrees. Anyone have any idea why?

This is a pretty common problem (although pretty minor) for those of use with 6 speeds... A common solution, and the one that I used, is to take a small flat bit screwdriver and pry the insert (the part that shows the shift pattern) out, apply a little silicon or gasket maker around the edge and re-install. Mine's been steady for 16,000 miles.

The shift pattern is the cover for the bolt that holds the grip on. pry with a small screwdriver and place a small doy of black RTV on it and place back in and the RTV will hold it. Many of these do it, mine does not. Oo.

My '01 took 7500 miles to make one complete turn and from then on it went all the way around about once a week. Never really bothered me, but Dad had a hard time finding reverse when he came out of his 5spd into my 6spd. My '04. 5 has turned some in 36k, but I really don't pay attention anymore. I might try the RTV fix though.

hey while were on the shifter knob. . what size is the knob? looking for a replacement and curious what i needed. . i think they are 3/8-18?

Pry it off with the small screwdriver and then score it with a utility knife all in line with the shaft all around. I did that with mine a year ago and it hasn't moved since. I did not use any silicone, etc.

Differant exspanion rates between knob and center kizmo. Had a neighbor spend several hours trying to figure out why his SHIFT HANDLE was rotating! Swore the whole deal was rotating! I about fell over. Had to hide my LOL.
