Fred,

No sweat, I didn't take anything personally, just wanted to do as you said and make sure everyone at Blumenthal's is singing the same song.

Get to feeling better quickly, Fred!

Godspeed,
Trent

Wyo,

Regardless of how much transmission oil you put in, your shift grinds should have gone away. I'm thinking your synchro is on its way out.

Trent, thanks for the kind words.

Got a ballpark figure of what that would cost to repair at a shop?

I saw a link on one of these sights about a guy who did his own R and R. It looked like alot of work but I will have my own very equipped shop at my disposal here in about another month.

WyBoy,

Call Blumenthal's about a $ on rebuild. The reman is $3500.

BTW, the transmission in my truck when I bought it was a Jasper reman that had a similar situation to yours except mine was 4th gear. I just had to be careful to shift at the right rpm and it would work every time except the first few minutes when cold in the winter. It kept that up for 262,000 miles until I broke the teeth off of 6th gear. If you can get it to shift correctly at a certain rpm I would just drive it until something else goes really wrong with it.

Godspeed,
Trent

I should have posted an edit to my above post... the $1300 was to replace the bearings and races, nothing else. The price included tear down, repair and reinstallation, plus new oil, that's it. A reman'd transmission will run what Trent said, but if it's just the 3rd gear synchro, you shouldn't need a complete rebuild.

Well I got the oil burning smell today so I must be slinging out the extra oil. I also had the exact same shifting conditions as yesterday... . it must be that stupid synchro. I had ZERO problems with it until all of a sudden wham! And I have had it ever since.

Why can't they build the little things as strong as the big things?!

WyBoy,

Thanks for the update, looks like 11 qts is still too much.

I hate it that your transmission is still shifting badly. I know what you mean, it would be nice to be able to shift clutchless with this transmission but it just ain't gonna happen without wearing synchros out too easily.

Godspeed,
Trent

I barely did it too... . I mean I could probably count how many times I did it. I think it was the downshifting that did it though. ..... Stupid EX girlfriend making me drive home 2 weeks after a broken pelvis! I know this is not a bash women site, but I will go ahead and blame her for that anyway.

Anybody ever deal with drivetrain.com? I bought a few parts form them awhile back for a NPtransfer case out of my old chevy diesel. They were real nice to deal with and their techs were very helpful.

Anyway, they are selling parts for the NV5600 and I was wondering if anybody knew if their parts were any good or not.

Thanks
