If I may ask a really stupid question, but what are the symptoms of a bad u-joint? When I release the go pedal in my truck, I get what I think to be a rather distinct vibration. More like a shudder really. There isn't an audible noise, but you can really feel it.

I'm getting ready to take the truck to So. Cali at the end of April, and I don't wanna get stuck in the middle of nowhere with my kids in the back.

One other thing, are u-joints covered by the 3/36k? I'm only at 24K on my 05, so I'm still well within my warrantee period... maybe whishful thinking? I would expect a u-joint to last longer than 24k, but I know a contractor had my truck for the first 13k of its life... would pulling shorten life span or are the factory joints just another cheap part from DC?

Thanks guys!

A1: No

A2: Vibrations, studdering, shuddering, noisy, driveshaft falling out etc.

A3: Yes and the 7/70 covers with deductable.

A4: Maybe

A5: Yes it would.

Now that I see you have a 6 speed I would definitely get the U joints replaced. Preferably with some greasble units like the ones Napa or rockauto.com sells.

The DC joints will just dry right back up again and of course at the worst time.

I have a long box, regular cab, six speed and the ONLY joint that would fit CORRECTLY (besides the AAM) is the Neapco 3-0486. And we tried them ALL.

I have NeapCo joints in mine, they are actually 1480 Spicer equivalents with custom ground retaining clips. There were no aftermarket joints available when I replaced mine IIRC. And there were no NeapCo joints that crossed at that time.

I am pleased with my NeapCo's. Glad to see there is an actual part number for the AAMs now.

I have been following this thread, guess you could call it 'future concerns', anyway - are the 2006 models then going to be the same part numbers? I think I would like to install them all before problems and have the greasable capabilities. Maybe keep the stockers as spares, in any event it might be good to just have them on a shelf or in the toolbox just in case.
