Hi All,

My fifth gear fell off on the way home today. I'm posting another thread to help weigh out my options but this is a perfect excuse to do a nv5600 conversion :). Can anyone recommend a reputable shop in the area that's done the conversion before? I figure order everything from standard trans and find someone to do the work. I'm in Soap Lake, Wa now and can get by for a while at 55mph with four gears but I'd like to take care of this soon.

Thanks,

Mike

The clutch has about 75,000 miles on it but I don't tow much and I'm pretty easy on it (not many burnouts, no sled pulls and no drag races). You'd need a 13" flywheel though. If I do go ahead with it I'll keep you in mind for the clutch.

Bob,

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I've been very happy with the 40 and the water meth injection, both did wonders for my EGT's. I've never had any problems with either one. I bought the 40 from piers a couple years ago and at the time it did what I needed to do. I haven't paid much attention to the turbos that have come out since then so maybe there's a better way to go these days. I tow my boat that weighs about 4500lbs with the gear/trailer and kept it at 70mph+ through 4th of July and Lookout passes wherever the turns and traffic would permit and kept the EGT's below 1200F. Both the turbo and the H20 meth were money well spent.

Mike I just noticed you were in Soap Lake (have you checked out NW Bombers? ). I could give Six States here in Pasco a holler and see what they say. I didn't realize they did upgrades but I think they're a pretty good outfit (Brad Nelson wrote about them in the last TDR issue).

Hi Mike, My father and I have a gear shop in the Selah area [ by Yakima], If you need you can give us a call at Pollocks gears and Rears 509-697-6670. Let us now if we can help out. We specialize in differentials, transmissions and transfercases but do alittle of everthing.

Thanks for your time Mike Palachuk

NV 5600 conversion pros and cons

What is your trucks purpose? Do you tow heavy? Are you going to race or something like that? These questions will help you decide if the NV 5600 is for you. 1st and 6th are the same ratio as 1st and 5th in the NV 4500 for all practical purposes. The NV 5600 is a much more heavy duty transmission. It shifts slower, you can't force it into gear either! The truck doesn't need the additional gear unless you are towing heavy. My 97 (with the NV 5600) is a great pulling truck, but you have to shift through all the gears after every stop. The NV4500 gets you to road speed one gear quicker every time. All IMHO. Ken Irwin

im not real sure what places are charging for the 6 speed conversion as far as labor goes but i dont think it should be much more than what it takes to do a clutch cause when you are doing a clutch the olny extra work to the 6 speed is the flywheel starter spacer 4wd shifter if its 4wd and then get the drive shafts one cut and one retubed
