6 speed install?

Hey all. Truck has been so good lately I have been working on my other car. However, I finally got my friend talked out of his 6 speed to replace my pin-on-the-grenade-pulled Getrag. I now need any information anyone can provide me on sticking this thing in my 93 4 wheel drive. Will the transfer case bolt up to the transmission(it is out of a 4wd truck incidentally), I know I will need to modify the driveshaft lengths and the shifter for the transfer case. I am a pretty good fabricator so moving the crossmember and stuff doesn't scare me much. I have the 6 speed clutch(kindly donated to the cause) out of a 2001 (I think) dually. Do I need to change the engine plate or the starter? Any lines on where I might find an engine plate used if I need to change it. I remember reading about someone putting a 6 speed in a 1st gen truck, but I think it was a 2wd. Still if I could hear from him it would help alot. Thanks.

Might want to check out www.drivetrain.com. They sell 6-speed conversion kits for 1st gen. I haven't dealt with them personally (if anyone has please feel free to jump in) but, on the website they list all of the items that you will need. Their kit prices for 6-speed look very good. Apparently they have a direct relationship with New Venture. Price is way below what you'd pay at ... ... well you know. They have upgraded NV4500 reman and new as well. On the website they lay it all out for you partswise.

I believe there was an article about this in the last TDR issue. It was written by the guy who did the swap himself. And, I'm pretty sure it was a 4WD.

Back to the top for one more try. Please guys, any first hand experience would be greatly appreciated. I think I loaned my copy with the 6 speed install to a friend, I need to try and get it back, but any other info would be nice. Hope all had a very Merry Christmas.

I also have a 4x4 First Gen. and would like to make the six speed swap and would appreciate any first hand help. I have a Gear Vendors on the rear of my transfer case also. I have requested info from Blumenthal but as of yet not received a reply. I am quite serious about this as am tired of rebuilding my Getrag. I am presently in the process of installing a Dana 80 in the rear axle.

Issue 38 has an article of a swap into a 99, so I don't think it will help you very much. I think the 5600 would require the same adaptors that a 4500 would. Of course the driveshafts would be different. Good luck with it.
