Ok 6 speed guys, I noticed the smell of gear lube in the cab after towing my skidloader the other day. After looking under the truck, it appears that I have gear lube coming from somewhere on top of the transmission, it has covered the top 1/4 of the transmission, not heavily just a film of oil. I checked fluid level it is ok. Any one else had this problem ?????

Thanks

Brett

Mine did that when it was new. The transmission was over full, when heated up, went out vent , which is on top of case. When the check plug was removed, there was quite a bit of lube ran out.

After that no problem.

I too have a thin film of lube comin out the top of transmission. The vent is towards the top but that is not where it is comin out of,I know its from the shift tower. Its also comin out between the bell housing and transmission. The dealer put in a dye to trace it, I told them any idiot can climb under there and see where its comin from

I guess I'll wait till enough runs out with the dye and they can use their black light to trace it.

The bell housing serves as the front cover of the transmission case on the 6 speeds, the transmission isn't a stand-alone, self-contained unit separate from the bell housing, like the 5 speed is.

Seems like a few others in the TDR have reported leaks from that seam, but most were at the bottom of the transmission.

Sorry to hear of you having trouble. :( If you can, I'd check all the bolts everywhere for tightness.

My 6-speed had a major leak when it had approx 4000miles?? on it . It was the shifter mounting plate. It was loose(all 4 cap screws were in danger of falling out)
