Is anyone else have a noisy 6 speed. I guess noisy isn't the best description, but it isn't silent either. No real definite sound, but you can sure tell there is moving parts under you, but maybe it is normal. I can coast in neutral and the sound is still there until you stop so it isn't just happening under power. Also, I'm new to the NV-5600 world. How and where do you check and change the fluid? Didn't crawl around much, but nothing really stuck out either.

TIA

The only noise I've heard from my NV-5600 is when it was in nuetral and the clutch dissengaged. Push clutch in noise would go away. I had the dealer replace the clutch disc under the TSB against this noise. Now there is no noise at all. However, the truck has only been driven 2,000 miles since this was done, so I'll just have to wait and see.

THe only drain on the NV-5600 is on the PTO plate. You have to take out the lowest bolt, and let the fluid run out.

Its a BIG BEEFY trans and big manuals always make some noise. The Nissan 5 speeds in the v6 trucks in 86. 5 up also were kinda noisy. The gears were as big as a BIG Mac hamburger. Was told by a tech the guts of the six speed were pretty massive.

J,

the sounds of a massive transmission working. these trannys weight 420+ lbs:eek: where does all that weight come from massive gears. this is the best transmission you can buy in a small work truck! but they are kind of noisy.

It's easy to change. Just take out one of the lower PTO cover bolts to drain it. Install a copper or aluminum washer under the bolt when you put it back in. Then just fill until it runs out the filler plug.

Jman, your transmission isn't too loud your 03 is too quiet :-laf I can't hear any noise from mine :D But my Cummins is kind of loud.

Thanks for the responses fellas!:) I kinda figured it was nothing to be alarmed by, but thought I would check. I agree about the quiet thing. I would never be able to hear this in a previous Cummins 6-speed. What is the story about installing a washer under the bolt after draining it using the PTO cover?

I love this transmission compared to my 01 stock auto slushbox. :D :D
