I sure like the 48re trans when towing, just put it in tow/haul and go. I've had a 6spd and its ok to, but I like the auto for what I do (9,000 to 10,000 pound loads plus trailer weight) and it does a good job. Everbody has there own opinion about trans. I shift my kenworth enough, so when I get in the dodge I don't want to shift no more.
I towed my neighbors backhoe today because his ford 450 5sp dump truck was broke down :-laf the backhoe had to be on the job site today. he complimented how effortlessly the mighty 6sp cummins pulled the backhoe. he told me his ford has one hell of a time gettig up some of the hills we had to go up today. All my neighbors are ford an chevy guys :-laf :-laf
I have had 3 diesel pick ups one Ford with the 7. 3 IDI and two Dodge Cummins and the first Dodge had an auto I like the way the diesels work with the manuals better and they towed better.
