Is there a cutoff switch on 6 speed equiped vehicles that won't let you start the truck unless the clutch is pushed in?

Also, is there a better clutch available than stock if you aren't planning on upgrading the power anytime soon?

Yes to the switch.

For clutch upgrades, three words... South-Bend-Clutch!

Although I think the stock clutch is fine for a stock engine. Can't imagine needing to change it right away. I does engage pretty late in the pedal stroke, but it's smooth, and I can't slip it even with a big load.

I have the stock clutch with my intake, Ramifier, Tag, 4 inch exhaust, and all and I still can't slip the clutch at all, even with the 13,000 pound 5er.

Thanks for the info! My reasoning is that I will eventually be getting some sort of box for more power. I just wanted to get the clutch out of the way while everything is still new.

Diesel Nut,

Maybe we'll pass each other on highway 99 someday!

There was an article in a TDR issue not sure which one on the switch. PM Joe D. he can help you with it I believe he wrote the article.

I would guess the switch is behind the clutch pedal. (just like the brake light switch) Not sure if the computer wouldn't freak out if it thought the clutch was in all the time though.

I was asking because I would like to put a remote start on the new truck if I can. I know its easy on the auto's but the manuals are a different story.

That means parking out of gear!

mberry:

I would never park my truck out of gear (and leave it unattended) with just the parking brake set. Also, I know we're talking slightly diff animals, but my 02 3500 is putting aout around 380 HP and over 800 ft lbs tq and I haven't slipped the stock clutch in almost 48K miles. There has been a couple of third gear starts and it still hangs in there. I have a SB Con OFE I never opened anticipating problems.

BTW, I have a auto start syst brand new in the box I'll sell cheap. Just couldn't bring myself to have it set w/ just parking brake. Let me know if interested. PM me.

Thanks guys. I've never had a problem leaving a manual parked out of gear. In fact, that's how I was taught to do it because what I drove as a kid there was no such thing as a clutch safety switch.

Josehp,

I will look that up. Any insight into any changes on the '05's I should watch out for?

I have a auto , but i think it would be a good idea to start the engine with the clutch released and the transmission in nuetral... years ago (about 25) when i worked in a gas station i noticed whenever we would set the timing on a car that had a manual transmission with some miles on it, the timing would fluctuate, but the auto didn't. this was due to the thrust bearing getting worn because of the pressure from the clutch when starting (no oil pressure yet)
