Has any one had problems with the nv 5600, 6 speed. When I drive it for the first time every morning when changing to 3rd gear it scratches. I do not have it rpm's to high and the clutch is depressed all the way in. After driving it 15 or twnety minutes it will stop. It is a 2001 3/4 ton 2wd with about 4,200 miles. Any ideas.

2001 3/4 ton quadcab 6 speed, sprayed bed and ranchhand bumpers, k&n filters, isspro gauges on the a pillar, r&k toolbox and headache rack, firestone ride rite system, gooseneck. Cummins will be the name of my first child(boy or girl).

Mine has done it from day one. The dealer has added the friction modifier and hasn't really helped. I feel it is worse in winter so we will see this winter. You can get around it if you learn the trick. One of the members had the soultion severel months ago. He said he used to drive a bus or something I don't remember. I know it worked. It is only a problem for the first or second shift when cold. At this point I can live with it.

Sue's six speed now has over 16k miles, and guess what: When the temperature fell to below freezing the other night, the morning 3rd gear grind came back.

Some transmissions grind/scratch in the morning, others don't. Our only reliable solution has been to double clutch (clutch in, shift to neutral, clutch out, clutch in, shift to 3rd) the first couple of 3rd shifts when the temperature is below 30 degrees. Then the transmission will shift flawlessly until the truck is parked long enough for the transmission temperature to fall back below freezing.

As WCrovo said, I can live with it.

Shifting into 4th..

I bought my Ram in Jan 01 and had that problem shifting into 4th. After a couple of shifts it would be OK. I talked with a service manager earlier this year and told me Dodge has to come up with a fix. I live in Wa. so we don't have continuous below freezing temps. I feel for you guys that do as it will only get worse. Sam

My '00 6spd had the 3rd gear clash for the first 6500 miles, then it went away. The truck is now at 54,000 miles, and still smooth as silk. I have almost doubled the engine power output and I'm hard on the drivetrain, and the trans doesn't miss a beat.

If you think your transmission shifts hard, you should have driven the old F250 farm truck my Dad had. It had a 300 I6 and a four speed. When it was cold the thing would just sit and laugh at you when trying to shift. To this day I can only imagine how it was when my little sister drove it to Laramie for college.

If my six speed ever gets that bad... then there is a problem... untill then, I will just pay attention to how I shift.

I just replaced the transmission oil with Redline MTL.

Mike, I think you have more than doubled the HP of your truck.

with 406 to the ground, you should be at 487 at the flywheel.
