how will this hold up in my truck

Just got the CO2 recall done and was talking to the service manager about the rattle in neutral. He said that the factory just gave him information that the fix is a new clutch disc and he has one on order for my truck.

Thought you guys would want the info.

I'll ask him for the TSB number or any other details he can give me.

Very interested to see a TSB # for this problem. Since my truck is in for a few things anyhow, I brought this up to the service advisor and he gave me the usual "Dodge knows this noise is a problem and is working on a fix, but it's nothing more than a noise... " yada yada yada.

Would be nice to able to reference a TSB.

Bring that number on. Mine did not rattle when I first got it but it sure does now:eek: kinda embarrassing:--)

Service manager said the same thing when I dropped the truck off, " Dodge knows about the problem and has not released the fix". When I called today he said the factory had just sent him this info on the disc. I'll pick up the truck this afternoon and see what other info he has.

Got the alternator bracket done as well.

The TSB number I got from my dealer is 06-001-03

Truck has just under 12K on it, but the rattle has been there for the last 8K. I don't know if the 12K warranty on the clutch will cause problems for those over 12 thousand.

I don't have the details on what needs to be replaced. The service manager was pretty busy and I didn't ask for a copy of the TSB.

If anyone has access to the details, please let me know what they are. Dealer said it should be a week or two before the parts get in.

hmmm.

That's the same TSB # given a little while back, but I can't find any mention of it in my searches, and my dealer's never heard of it.

*sigh*

Mine had the 'rattle' too, but not annoying. While pulling a grade north of Flagstaff at 75, 7500 out back, my clutch started slipping, about 200 RPM above reality.

I put a new SBC Con O in and the rattle is gone, and the clutch is as smooth as you would ever expect it to be, and should be good to the HP level I expect to stay at (yea right). The clutch looked perfectly new when it came out, a near mirror image of the one that went in, excepting the friction material.

But, the flywheel had a definite ripple to it, and the wear pattern that was developing on the clutch and pressure plate was in the middle of the clutch face, not the outside edge, and no cupping was evident.

I bought the clutch without worrying about price when the dealer insisted that as the warranty says, on page 9, 'MANUAL TRANSMISSION CLUTCH PARTS ARE NOT COVERED AT ANY TIME'. I didn't want a replacement the same as what was in it, and I didn't want the amatuer hour tearing apart my truck at the dealer.

If this bit about the rattle is true, I'll be seeking some compensation from DC for their oversight.

Thanks for the clutch Fred, works great, I just need to repair the dent in my credit card now...

So is this the same clutch that they used on the 2001-2002 HO 6 speed but now it is not doing well because of the increased power the 03 HO puts out? Or is this a new design clutch for the 03 trucks?

I have the rattle also but my clutch isnt long for this world either. If it wasnt for the fact that TSTs box is delayed and waiting for a couple of turbos that are on the horizon it would already be toast. Meanwhile Im putting the wear on the rattling stock clutch till the goodies show up and the con ofe goes in.

I don't find the slight rattle annoying but I'm wondering if the problem is just a noise issue or is there something wrong that will shorten the life of my clutch?

I was just talking to the service man at my dealer yesterday and he said they have a tsd on this. They are replacing the clutch disk with an upgraded one. He said they had already done three of them and it cured the rattle. I am going by there this morning so he can hear mine again and order one. If you have over 12000(which I do)it depends on what kind of dealer you have for them to go ahead and do it. Its just embarrassing for a new truck to make this kind of noise to me:eek:

He also told me they had another reflash out for engine performance. Nothing yet on the check gage reflash.

Went by the dealer this morning and they lister to it. They have heard worse but it is noisy so they are going to order one, should by in Wed. I feel I best get it replaced why they are willing to do it. They are really only covered to 12000 but they agreed to do it. I have 17000+now. They said the ones they have done cured the rattle.

Whell, when mine makes a noise it sounds like a rod knock when in neutral and idling. Dont know if this is a "normal" sound or not. When I gets to dealer next time will ask about it. Need to goto Phoenix tonite for a few days, towing the tt.

6 speed rattle also

my 03 3500 drw HO 6 speed has been rattling in neutral

w/clutch out almost from the word go. I now have over

12k on it. been to 3 different dealers. they told me at first

that it was just a characteristic of the trans. and nothing

could be done. the last time I complained they told me they

were going to replace the transmission. then the dealer sent

me a letter they called and talked to star-tech. star-tech said

6 speed rattle also

I didn't get to finish my post. so will try again.

star-tech said neautral dampner is in engeneering at this time.

no repairs are to be made at this time. new part will be made

available late may or june. star-tech will not ship new trans.

that was back in april. truck had 9,577 miles at that time.

so maybe we will get to the source of this annoying noise yet.

mine is the loudest I have heard. H. Bowers

So what's the most miles someone has put on their truck and got them to do the fix?

I have 22,000 and it's going in tomorrow for the "official diagnosis" and DC customer service said they'd probably do it for goodwill...
