I just got my truck back yesterday and this is what was one the work order. Replaced clutch disc with revised part per TSB 0600103 FP Number-52107775-AC

Description-Disc Clut 21133 419

Replaced clutch disc with revised part per TSB 0600103 to correct condition.

Well it did correct the condition some. It don't rattle in neutral. But it still is noisy when your barely moving in 1 and 2. I believe the noise is coming from the transmission. I know they say its normal but I don't buy that. Stopped at Mac D on my way to work this morning and when I took off:eek: Something is not right in the 6 sp trans. If my 5 sp would of made this noise I know I would of heard it cause I got good ears.

Called my dealer today to get mine fixed. First dealer (closest one) told me I'm outta luck since I have over 12,000 miles. (12,200 miles) They won't even look at it.

So I call the dealership I bought it at (40 miles away) and talk to the service manager. He tells me that it will be replace within the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty as long as it has not been abused.

I explain to him that the rattle is in neutral and under load at 2000 RPM. It's not slipping or burnt up.

They are ordering the parts and will replace it next Wednesday.

Why does everyone get such differing replies from dealers? I mean they ARE getting PAID to replace the clutch anyway.

6 speed rattle in neutral

my 03 has 14000 plus miles and had been rattling pretty

loud in neutral almost from the word go. had the clutch

disc replaced by the dealer and no more rattle. sure fooled

me. I thought sure it was the transmission. I looked at my

old cl utch disc, and the torsion springs were a little loose.

just enough to rattle and telegraph the noise through the

transmission. I think your dealer will replace the disc regardless

of your miliage. the TSB says this bulletin applies to vehicles

equipped with a 5. 9L Cummins high output turbo diesel.

(sales code ETH) and nv5600 6 speed manual transmission

(sales codeDEE) built on or before May 11,2003 (MDH 0511xx)

just complain and remind them of TSB number 06-001-03

Mine is at the dealer(La Grange Dodge)getting the clutch disk replaced today. Well I actually took it there yeaterday afternoon so we will see what happens. My mpg dropped slightly too when they did the CO2 reflash but since I starting using Stanadyne Performance Formula the last two tanks were 20. + before they did the CO2 refash I would occasionally hit 20+ but after the refash it was in the 19+ and sometime 18+. And since the reflash my overhead has been reading lower mpg used to be on the high side:confused:

Hey, Does LaGrange really exist?... Just know of it through the ZZ Top lyrics!

Yes La Grange,Texas does exist. Its about 30 miles from my house. Very nice town. Back in the ole days it used to be the home of a very well known ***** house:D :D :D

Oops guess I can't put that word in here.

Like the zztop song says, "they got a lot nice girls down there"... . but getting back on topic, has anyone taken off the insert on the shifter handle? (gear indicator) Mine is kind of sideways, want to straighten it out. Do you use a pick or a knife to pry it out? I started to try, but didn't come out easy and didn't want to mess anything up... .

I used a small screwdriver to get mine out. Then you can put a dab of RTV on it and put it back in, and it will stay.

Clutch rattle 2004

I have driven several new 2004 1 tons that have a rattle, all of them on the dealer lots. I just met a guy who had to have all clutch parts replaced at 3K miles and that fixed it for him, but the dealer never did figure out what the problem was. I was gonna buy a truck last week but the rattle is too noticable. They replaced the disk, but it didnt change at all.

Anyone know which component it is that rattles? Springs, or what? The dealer didnt really try to find out buy listening and driving it a bunch, just went ahead with the new clutch disk.

I think DC has a major problem here on 04s, and I sure as heck aint going to buy one that rattles when brand new!

6 speed rattle in neutral

there is a TSB # 06-001-03 on this problem. I had an 03

6 speed with the rattle, they replaced the clutch disc with

a revised part. that stopped my rattle. the noise was coming

from the springs in the disc. they were a little loose.

I traded it for an 04 after 23K miles. the rattle was starting

to come back. so I don't think the revised clutch disc was

a permanent fix. I think a South Bend clutch disc would fix

the problem for good. that's just my opinion.
