Starting to have trouble getting the truck into reverse when jockeying the fifth wheel into position after a trip. The gears don't spin down, and some pretty nasty grinding occurs. Anybody have a recommendation on how to minimize this through a shifting procedure, or last resort, replacing the lubricant (need recommendation here also). eth/dee.

Thanks in advance... ... .

Slip it into first, then into reverse. Sometimes if I go straight from neutral to reverse when the clutch has been engaged in neutral for awhile, I'll get a healthy grind as well when maneuvering the 5th wheel. Slipping it into first before going to reverse eliminates the grind, at least for me!

My truck only has around 20K on it, but I have noticed EXACTLY what you are talking about. I agree that the only way I have been able to "STOP" the grinding while going into reverse, is to go into another gear first, (1st). I wonder if DC has any dealer updates for this problem?

Rev has straight cut gears and you have to slide the idler into engagement so all components have to be stopped, all forward gears have synchronizers. The six speed has heavy internal parts inside and if the clutch has be released in neutral it takes awhile for the cluster and other gears to slow to a stop. When I step in the clutch I either go into a forward gear (which the Sancho works as a brake for the cluster) or wait a couple seconds for the cluster to spin down to a stop. I don't see it as a problem my self, unless the clutch is dragging and the cluster never spins down and stops.

my truck just recently started not going into reverse with ease as normal so i started going to first and then to reverse and now it doesn't want to go into first or reverse. guess the dealer is going to have to have a look. :( :( :(

Mine shifts beautifully:) You should try driving a big truck with no syncronized gears;) Even some of the pickup transmissions don't have syncronized first - New Process 435 for instance.

reverse

yes it works, put it in 1 st and then reverse man it goes right in slicker than grease lighting. thanks thats worth the 35 dollars a year for membership to tdr. :D
