I am not apolagizing for being an uninformed customer and the install was done by a reputable SCB approved shop. The problem is that I experimented with a synthetic, not DC approved for NV5600 lube that contributed to the confusion. I paid $200. justafiably so, to have the transmission R/R and a new pilot bearing installed pointing the finger at the installer. They did an excellent job on the truck, so hears the deal! Don't think that you know more that tried and proven product engineering standards because you might just shoot your self in the foot like me. There was none to very little metal present in the transmission lube when I changed the lube so no big harm done but I did not drive the truck over 200 miles in this condition before the lube change. Use the correct factory lube on NV5600's and change it every 30k miles depending on severity of use. I pull a 12K lb. 5er twice a year for about 6 k and the rest is 8 k miles around empty with about 350 RWHP and I think that 30k is about right given all the TDR info that I have read but DC does not even mention changing it. DC is thinking stock power but the slickist lube just does not shift good with the heavy clutch. Lesson learned and paid for and SCB did not really know what to do so if you are reading this my truck shifts best with DC factory lube useing a Con OFE and I love the clutch. Thanks guys.
 
YUP - strange things CAN happen if we stray from the recommended lubes - I've been burned traveling down that road myself - and have about $80 worth of useless synthetic lube sitting out in my garage as this is written - very good stuff - but simply NOT compatible with my intended use!



It's REAL easy to make wrong assumptions and point fingers in the wrong direction - and end up embarrassing ourselves - but it's the right thing to do to openly ADMIT that error as to not wrongfully smear the name of a manufacturer or supplier, and mislead other potential customers.



Other than outright abuse or misapplication of a clutch, I seriously doubt that very many of the clutch problems we read about here are REALLY the fault of the clutch itself - more likely other undiscovered issues not yet found - and maybe never admitted by a complaining user...
 
Well I changed my transmission to Redline MTL and the improvement isn't as pronounced as it was in my 2001 HO.



What I notice is the lever seems to slide around the gates easier as if the lube is more slippery, but I notice a bit more notchiness from gear engagement as if the synchros have it too slippery.



Another interesting observation. . . the stock fluid was pretty clean at 30K and not much on the magnet. When I did my first change at 30K on my 2001 truck the stock stuff was absolutely filthy and quite metallicized. This transmission has always shifted easier.



I am going to see how the Redline does over 30K and if I don't like the slight notchy feeling I have I will likely go back to stock transmission lube or give the [speaking in a whisper so no one hears me say the P word] . . . pensoil:eek:

Vaughn I tried the penzoil synchromesh when I changed my clutch. Didn't work worth a spit. Went back to the factory fluid and it is much better. Shifts much smoother. Only complaint is it is about 12 bucks a quart. Lee.

Don't tell me that... I just bought a case of Pennzoil Sycromesh.
 
I am still having trouble with my Con OFE that I installed when I converted my '98 to an NV5600. It is very hard to get the trany into first and reverse when at a stand still. It is the worst when hot. The friction point is at mid pedal if not past the middle some. I have driven this thing like this for over 19k miles and it has not improved at all. If I depress the clutch and hold the shifter up against 1st it will try to move forward and then if I keep forcing it it will drop in. I have gotten used to just grabbing 2nd and then into first. I replaced the hydraulics even thought I figured they were okay just to rule that out and no help at all. I am currently running Amsoil 5w30 HDD right now. I have also run the factory oil with no difference at all. I did this same conversion to my uncle's '98 and his works fine. I sure wish I could figure out what's wrong with mine. My cousin also has a Con OFE in his '97 with NV5600 and it too works just fine.

I changed mine to Pennzoil syncro.

Tried to get rid of the slight syncro grind in 3rd and 5th when temps below 60*f and truck cold.

Trans was smooth as warm butter once truck up to operating temp or > 60*ambient.



NO change. Still syncro grind in 3 & 5th below 60*, truck cold and smooth as warm butter at operating temp or >60* ambient

Any vehicle that is hard to get into low or reverse and you have to go into another gear to make it easier is the CLUTCH not releasing! Be it a sticking disc,pilot bearing or a bad pressure plate. Its NOT in the trans. If you go slow into reverse and the gear is grinding and spinning slowing is because its not releasing fully. Had a period on NEW NISSAN trucks we saw TONS of them doing this. Replaced NEW clutch assys with another new one and they were cured. Had it in some front wheel drives also. Putting it into another gear just slows the Tran down enough to engage without noise or difficulty.
