i was wondering if anybody knows if shifting a 6-speed without using the clutch will hurt anything as long as its not grinding the gears but if u shift smooth like a semi truck if its fine or will it hurt the trans thanks for the help
I fried the synchros between 3rd and 4th doing that. Check my past posts on rebuild info. I wasn't always smooth as silk but I had a broken pelvis and had to drive home after. I wouldn't do it. You may get away with it but if you don't the rebuild is not fun.
I do on mine and have never had a problem with 227,XXX on her. I think it actually shifts smoother. I didn't even realize I was doing it till my wife asked me if I was using the clutch one time. I guess I got so use to driving the tractors at work I started doing it in my pick-up and didn't even realize it. But ... if you don't know how its a good way to chip a tooth.
The thing is to match engine RPM to the speed it needs to be at for the gear you're going into as close as possible, so you're not overworking the synchros. . . if you have to force it forget it.
