I know that much has been posted on going to a 6 volt battery system, but I know very little about the pros and cons. What 6 volt batteries do you use, how many? How do you set them up? The new 5er will have a generator, but no solar panels. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

It is actually all about the most amps for the dollar. Trojan has been the leader for battery banks, I have made 6v and 12v banks. Obviously you need even numbers of 6v batteries, if you intend to keep your system 12v. I have found a disadvantage in 6v banks, because at the time one goes bad, you need to replace ALL of them, but mostly it depends on the space you have and the type use you intend.

6 volt battery system

I run four 6 volt golf cart batteries in two banks at twelve volts. With this setup generator usage will be little if any for a long weekend trip. Like the earlier post, storage capacity is what you will be gaining. Your best bet would be to do some study at solar or battery sites on battery physics. With proper maintenance you can expect this setup to last you four to eight years depending on battery type before changing out batteries. I use an inverter for tv and satellite a good portion of this time with still no generator need. It is a nice trouble free setup... keep in mind it is some serious additional weight.

I use 4, 6-volt batteries and have no troubles. . Especially when I have 200 watts solar to charge them back up during the day.

6 volt batteries are able to produce more amps for a longer period of time with less voltage loss. when you have 2, 6 volt batteries hooked in series, you have more running amp time than a regular deep cycle. So I have 4 batteries, 2 and 2 in series, and those 2 sets are paralleled together.

I was shocked by it…. What an unbelievable thing has happened with Britney Spears last week! Click here and smile)):

Eric, I appreciate the input on the 6 volt batteries, but I didn't like the Britney Spears stuff. I could care less about that dizzy chick.

I may do a set-up like yours, but without the solar panels. Anything wrong with charging up the batteries with the generator. I need to fire it up everyday anyway to run the coffee pot, micro and AC.

I thought as much, and reported it to the moderator.

I have seen that stuff a couple of times in various threads. I think someone has figuered a way to get an attached virus into TDR without the person making the reply knowing it is attached.

That is why I made the comment to EricBu12.

It is either in his machine at home or somehow gets attached to the message. and gets through the TDR firewall system.

Now my computer has a virus. May not be EricBu12 fault.

Sorry about this guys. . I have to post, then edit it out afterwards...

I tried to do a virus scan from a software and it could not find that one and I even did a full system scan that took all night and didnt help .

Any guesses on what I can do short of reloading windows?
